What the hell is wrong with Giantbomb's community?

If you (like me) happen to be a subscriber to fellow Giantbomb member CraigAA's youtube channel or if you follow him here on Giantbomb, then you might be aware that his reviews were more or less overwhelmed by haters and/or trolls following a misunderstanding on Users Protomessiah's review of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Well, because my video review of Deus Ex: Human Revolution was uploaded as a response to Craig's -- some witless idiots thought it would be funny to go ahead and troll on my written review of it (meaning DISLIKING it).  How do i know this? Well, it didn't have a single dislike until the misunderstanding started and Craig stared a blog about it and whenever i delete and upload it again, i get six to eight dislikes in a matter of a few hours. This baffles me beyond belief -- Giantbomb is a nice community, and one that's not supposed to be overwhelmed by dorky trolls who make a living out of being a jerk, clearly i was mistaken. What's even weirder is the fact that i merely made my video review as a response to Craig's, so why anyone would hate Craig so much that they even hate reviews that have even the slightest connection to Craig's is beyond me. People are weird i guess.

I didn't think it was anything special either, though it definitely falls in the "good" category.   
 
Anyway, before making judgements I'd have to see both videos. I can't right now, as I'm on a computer with no speakers nor sound drivers installed and I (frustratingly) can't do it.

Apparently, Giant Bomb's community is filled with many more word police than it is trolls, at least if this thread is any indication.

It's the internet. When you have the audacity to dislike something someone else likes there is always a small group of idiots that make it their goal in life to harass and insult you anyway they can.

People complaining about spelling and an offensive word?  Sad.

Why are you bringing this up again? There was already a blog about this and it was taken down, presumably by CraigAA himself (?). That blog only succeeded in making a mountain out of a molehill, and so will this thread.

Also, Giant Bomb has like 120k people signed up to it or something, so how about stop judging the community based on the (trolly but not exactly life & death) actions of a handful of people?

So 6 to 8 people doing something you don't like makes the whole community overwhelmed by dorky trolls? Idon'tknow man, but that seems like a "slight" overgeneralization to me.

@Popskinz: I was referring more to their instant disapproval of you for your use of an image containing a word they don't like, but grammar police are all around too (sometimes, I find myself being one as well).

What's wrong with the Giant Bomb community? well it's like one step from being the same as the worst places on 4chan, that's what's wrong with it

I don't normally contribute a lot to the forums here or any other Whiskey Media site. I tend to just consume the content produced (videos and articles). The thing is, all I've ever seen of the community here is a bunch of pleasant people who all seem to get a long fairly well. I've not watched or read your review or this other person's. What I can say is that opening a topic with the title "What the hell is wrong with Giantbomb's community?" is only asking to cause trouble. I think some of the comments you received here only reflect that. I totally agree with Jimbo though, and that you can't judge an entire community on the actions of just a few people. That's not fair on the community.

No, i didn't remove any videos. I just deleted and re-uploaded my written review just to see if the dislikes kept coming back, and so they did.

Oh, most definitely. Almost everyone here is awesome, and I can't say that for 99% of people commenting and participating just about anywhere else on the internet.

I don't really understand why you made this thread. Craig made it into a way bigger deal than it actually it was. He tends to do that.

Fine. I'll give you that one, good point. But there was a good chunk of people hating on Craig because of a misunderstanding, and now those same people decided to do the same to me. I find it rather peculiar, and as far as i'm concerned, they'll keep disliking my Deus Ex review as soon as i keep re-uploading it.

So is it really such a great earth-shattering problem if a handful of people dislike your review?

If it's a decent review, many many more people will like it. You can't please everyone.

I find your attitude and lack of integrity to be offensive. Apologize, take your lumps and move on. You lose all rights to complain when you insult people without reason and then expect them not to retaliate.

So, this thread is about you being upset that some guys disliked your Youtube video or something?

It is not nearly extinct at all. I'd say the majority of the time it is used hatefully.

But anyway this thread isn't about word connotations.

I'm pretty sure trolls would go to more of an effort than clicking a dislike button. Maybe your review was just bad. And I like how you blame an entire community for people who, you admit, migrated from YouTube.

There's not that much wrong with Giant Bomb's community really, it largely seems pretty great to me. This thread just seems to be contributing to any sort of smudges you might come across. (I also can't believe we're having a childish back-and-forth over whether the term "fag" is offensive or not. It is.)

Even if you think fag has been transformed into a word about hating "stupid people you don't like" and not about hating gay people, that definition still exists and it's still hurtful to just about every gay person I know. Also, what part of it being about "stupid people" instead of gays makes it less offensive?

I would have disliked your video review because it's dreadfully boring. And if you kept resetting my votes, I would continue to vote you down because I want people to know that I don't like your review. Maybe Craig's blog post just gave your mediocre review a lot more publicity and people with better taste started disliking it?

The Giantbomb community, to me atleast, always only consisted of people doing dumb, but fun stuff.
