How long do you think untill we don't think of HD TV anymore as HD? I kind of think that humans are stuck calling everything HD from here on out. That or until a new technology replaces LCD's all together. Even if the entire world had HDTV's I can't see manufacturers removing the label. Even if a new higher resolution set was released at 2160P They would probably label it HDH or HD+. And with the advent of 3D we will have 3D HD.
Edit: Fine 4320p. Stop calling me out on that lol
Will HD ever be called SD?
" HD will never stop. It will only be replaced by UD. ultra definition. quote me on this "Quoted.
Japan already has UltraHD AKA Super Hi-Vision which runs at 7680x4320. So yes, in the next decade HD will become SD." Good point. How about now? Let's start off this decade right. "

followed by
SUTD Super Ultra Turbo Definition

Much like 1280x720 = 720p and 1920x1080 = 1080p.
HD can't and won't become SD, because those terms are both marketing contrivances and the companies selling HD products have a lot invested in that language. But it might be fun to try and subvert them. We could start using SD, and start calling Blu Ray discs DVDs, since that's what they are, really. And since stereo literally means "solid", as in "full" or "real", it still totally works to describe the latest in surround sound standards. Anyone want to come over and watch my Planet Earth DVD on my sweet 52 inch SD color television set? I've got it hooked up to a Hi-Fi stereo system. Yo, it's like you're really on planet earth!

" @Geno said:Don't worry, TVs won't be there for a while." There are currently already widely availables monitors for under $1,000 that offer about 70% more resolution than HD. 1080p is starting to look relatively blurry already. "Don't say that! I just finally jumped on a 1080p enabled TV like a month ago :/ "

I doubt it, It will take a really long time for there to be at least. HD to me, are PC games though, and not really anything else. 720p is what every single game pretty much runs at on a console, and that is already really low, yet plenty of games don't even run at true 720p which is very pathetic.
I doubt worldwide there will be some huge leap in HD for tv's and consoles to support anytime in the next 10 years.
HD won't be SD until they make cyborg eyeballs that see Super Extra Awesome HD so that real life looks cooler.
