    Why do some PC gamers hate this service? I think bringing Windows and Xbox closer together makes both platforms stronger. 1 ID that can be used on multiple platforms with cross-platform chat, friends list and achievements. I know some people have a strong dislike for achievements but I think this is the best solution for achievements on the PC. I think PC gamers are just hating on it because its "consolizing" the PC.

    Personally not a fan because it attempts to ruin my second playthrough.

    2nd playthrough of a pc game usually entails godmode and rocket launcher.

    Any game that has it, whenever I accidentally hit Caps Lock, the game minimizes then pops back up in windowed-form. Which, in turn, makes all my clicks off-center and I usually can't change the game back to full screen unless I go to the main menu. A huge pain for games like Red Faction: Guerrilla, where the only way you can save your progress is by going to a save point, after you fail or complete any mission you may be on. I had to buy a keyboard and pop the caps lock button off just to play these games.

    That's not the reason everyone else hates games for windows live, though. I don't really care for it one way or another. If anything, it's just a bunch of screen clutter that I have to turn off, and would rather not have popping up in my face all the time.

    @Zidd: Actually, I tried re-binding it. Games for Windows like apparently just has some crazy hate for the Caps Lock button. Which is understandable, of course. It's a fucking useless button.

    The only game I've had GFWL troubles with was Fallout 3. But that was remedied easily by manually downloading the patch.

    I don't hate it, but I do feel like it's a program in its infancy.  Up until E3, I wasn't even entirely sure Microsoft's heart was in it, but we'll see with the recent news of their supposed push for PC's.  In order to draw my business away from Steam, though, they've gotta become competitive both in price and in quantity of major games.

    What do you mean " actual" achievements? Already it's kind of ridiculous that achievements should be so important to a person... but now there are "real" and "fake" ones? What makes an achievement "actual"?

    My only real issue with GFWL is that it doesn't like my Xbox gamertag. I have to have a second gamertag for GFWL because whenever I try to login to my usual one it freezes while retrieving it, and then eventually comes up with an error message.

    My only issue with GFWL is with games that use it for matchmaking.  When Dawn of War II came out, the matchmaking was pretty awful and took forever at times to match you up with someone to play.  I do like the fact that I can get achievements that are tied to my XBL score, as well as talk to my buddies who are on their xbox's.  Now, they need to let us party chat it up with xbl guys.

    I personally don't like the general idea that you have to sign in to an online service to play a single player game that you've purchased. More specific to Games for Windows Live though, I don't like that you can't seem to apply DLCs to your offline profile, and you can't transfer saves between online and offline profiles (unless I'm missing something?)

    People have been playing games with controllers on pcs for years. The problem is, now games don't support the gamut of different controllers out there. The amount of games with just Xbox controller support and xbox button mapping is stupid when I'm playing a game on an open pc platform.

    And if more games could be played in cross-platform multiplayer, then that would definitely make it a much more worthwhile service.

    @Zidd:

    More now than when? Most PC games have supported controller use forever, even in genres where it wouldn't make much sense, they also created a market for genre specific controllers. That's why there used to be such a huge flightstick/joystick, steering wheel and gamepad market for PCs. Flight sticks and wheels no longer have the number of competing devices they used to have in the past. More games now support just the xbox 360 controller. I've played several games, Batman Arkham Asylum for example, in recent years that flat out refused to accept my controller as an input device, simply because it isn't a xinput driver controller. Even compatible xinput controllers have issues. It's common to see discussion and work arounds for controllers in new games on a steam forum page.

    Showing me a 360 controller layout as a guide to how I should map a game out is fine, but having those buttons pop up as how I should proceed in menus is dumb. Indigo Prophecy is the last game I can think of that actually made all the button prompts change to the numbering your pad uses in the controller dialogue.

    Also, there's no reason they couldn't release a PC version of shadow complex. It would have controller support obviously, but the mouse and keyboard play would function a lot like Trine. That kind of platforming has been done on the PC since Abuse.
