I remember seeing a video somewhere that was goldeneye supposedly running on a 360, but i also heard something about rights issues or something.
GoldenEye 007
Game » consists of 5 releases. Released Aug 23, 1997
A first-person shooter for the Nintendo 64 and a video game tie-in with the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye. It paved the way for a long line of shooter games based on the universe of the British secret agent and is often credited for helping establish first-person shooters for consoles.
Goldeneye for XBLA, anyone heard anything about it?
Rare made the game, but Nintendo owns its rights. Microsoft and Nintendo came to an agreement to have both consoles be allowed to release a version of the game. Neither are allowed on their own because Rare made the game, but Nintendo owns the rights to the original. Upon the agreement, Rare went to work on the 360 version of the game, which was to be an XBL arcade title. They were totally reworking the game to be in HD. While Rare was making the 360 version, they had zero intentions of making a port for the Wii's virtual console, so Nintendo stepped in and cancelled the deal. What I get from the situation is that Nintendo was expecting Rare to port the game for the Wii, rather than them do it themselves, so they said no. It's a shame really. Personally, I think Rare should send a big FU to Nintendo and make the original Perfect Dark for the XBL Arcade. At least Rare still owns the Perfect Dark franchise, hence Perfect Dark Zero for the 360.
Let it go. Goldeneye was good because nothing could hold a candle to its control setup on a console. I personally don't want to see HD Goldeneye, especially not HD Goldeneye with online with douchebags that keep teabagging me.
To put it simply, Goldeneye is a "You had to be there" kind of game. Most of us were there, and loved it. Let's be content with those memories.
"To put it simply, Goldeneye is a "You had to be there" kind of game. Most of us were there, and loved it. Let's be content with those memories."thats what i was thinking, it was great when it came out, but that was 11 years ago. games have come a long way since.
on the other hand, even if it is not that great it would still be fun to play it again for nostalgic purposes.
I'm really mad that these two companies have come to this conclusion. It would have been perfect if the game came out this year on XBLA since it would have been a great way to celebrate its 10th year, since the release back in 1997. Let's just hope Nintendo, Rare and Microsoft come to a mutual agreement in the near future.
It's hard to go back and play the original now, the controls are so...not right. They feel completely foreign ever since Halo and the like have come out lol. But a slight re-tooling of the controls for an xbla port could be fun on multiplayer. But at the same time, I don't know if it'd live up to what it was in it's glory days. I find that shooters are the only genre I find it really hard to go back and play. Maybe It's just me. But bad fps 3d graphics look weird to me now. Not as weird as fps 2d graphics though lol.
"Yeah, Nintendo was being a bitch and shut them down. (Seriously what is NIntendo going to do with the game? Rare has the licenses to it.)
" Yeah they ruined it for all of us. Way to make yet another mistake Nintendo.
Yes, by all means...let's play an extinct and trashy shooter in the midst of all these amazing ones.
"Yeah, unfortunately it doesn't look like it's going to happen due to a conflict between Nintendo and Microsoft. I guess that's what happens when you leave one major competitor for another. Honestly I believe going to MS was the dumbest thing Rare has ever done.Agreed. No Shigeru Miyamoto to overlook their projects, no magic.
"
Although I haven't played Nuts & Bolts so perhaps I should shut up.
"Old News, Its never going to come to XBLA cause Nintendo and Microsoft are greedy whores.Everybody seems to be forgetting that EA owns the James Bond license now.

"Goldeneye isn't Goldeneye unless four of you are sitting side by side staring at four tiny boxes, on an equally tiny, portable television. That's how I used to rock my Goldeneye game back in the day.Arkthemaniac said:

Yup, it would only be disappointing if they brought it back. Even if it's a good game, it won't live up to the memories of playing it on the N64.
