Gran Turismo 5 Hitting November 24

Pretty soon we'll to stop talking about how much we'd like to have Gran Turismo 5 in our hands and start talking about what it's like to actually have Gran Turismo 5 in our hands. Sony has confirmed that Polyphony Digital's long-awaited racing simulation game will hit store shelves this November 24. That's pretty soon!

This is the second, and hopefully last, November release date for Gran Turismo 5. Sony previously confirmed that the title was to hit on November 2. Shortly after, the publisher announced a delay without providing an official explanation. Internet speculation varies on why the game was pushed back. Some people are saying Polyphony wanted to put just a bit more work into the game, while others swear the latest (and last) delay was a result of SCEA's desire to have the game run on a new version of the PS3 SDK that pirates and hackers won't be able to crack open for some time. This, unfortunately, supposedly required Polyphony to pull the game from production and add in some code.

In a statement about this latest release date, Polyphony's Kazunori Yamauchi had some fun. "Gran Turismo 5 is an ambitious project, with challenges and complexities which have made it our version of the Apollo Space Program!" He added later, "I can only apologize to everyone for making you wait so long, and I hope that when you try out the wealth of driving experiences available in Gran Turismo 5, you will not be disappointed." Oh, if only he knew what Ryan lost out on because of this!

You should write these stories instead.

Seems like a sound reason to delay a game, I guess.

This is as baffling as a twin stick shooter taking two and a half years to make. Yo left stick move right stick shoot.

After so many delays, the game has to be awesome. I don't think Sony could afford it to be anything less. Should it be medicore, that's the death of a franchise there.

With GT5, Blops and a big fat new Kurzweil synthesiser for company I'm going not going to go farther than a minute away from my home over December, holy moly.

Please let the high license tests be less frustrating than GT3s please oh please oh please..

Apollo Space program which put a man on the moon - approx. 9 years

GT 5, a racing game - approx. 5 years

Yup, that sure is a valid comparison.

The gameplay videos on youtube of a leaked copy looked incredible.

Start taking another betting round to if GT5 will come out by that date in november. My bets are that it's not hitting that date for unexplained things yet again.

I will hold you to this.

I think, to save everyone's time, they should just state the new release date, along with the next delay in the same press release.

#28 Posted by Grissefar (2842 posts) -

A lot of troll posts here from green named people. I find that funny :P

Repeat until True

Also Jeff I am super excited for GT5 - in a Bombcast you said you didn't believe anyone was. I hope you review it as you did the Forza 3 review. Seems only fair to compare.

It's funny, for the past 5 or 6 years I hadn't thought much about GT5, but now that the release date is right around the corner, I can't get enough info on the game and I'm getting ansy to get my hands on it.

Cue: The inevitable delay.

#40 Posted by Steamboat (98 posts) -

The same date as Chinese Democracy. Though I won't be playing it, I hope it's just as much of a masterpiece.

I dont think my calendar can take it anymore after all the delays.

Big games like this always, always come out right before finals time for me.  It's almost as if the videogame industry just wants me to fail out of college.

I didn't know there was a TON of other sim racers.  360 has Forza, PS3 has GT5.
