Overview
The Guise of the Coercer is a legendary mask that allow rogues and bards to cast an illusion upon themselves, which allows them to appear as a Dark Elf for a period of time. The secret of the mask, though, is that anyone cast the illusion spell simply by holding the mask regardless of their race or class.
The illusion allows them to not only fool other adventurers, but also allows access to areas they may not normally be able to access such as the deeper areas of Neriak. It can be used an unlimited number of times.
It was once carried by the ghoul assassin, who is an undead froglok in Lower Guk, but can no longer be found.

Background
The Guise of the Deceiver was removed from the game in October 1999 just six months after the game's release. The mask allowed any race or class to use the illusion because they could cast the spell by clicking the mask from their main inventory slots without actually wearing it. This was later considered to be too powerful. The compromise was to limit it to the two classes who would conceivably use disguises and make it so it had to be worn to cast the spell. So, the ghoul assassin's loot table was changed to the Mask of Deception. However, players who had obtained the Guise of the Deceiver were allowed to keep it, which meant a handful of players on each server had an item that no longer existed.
Years later, a casino was added to the game in Shadow Haven where players could win rare items including some that had been removed from the game. The Guise of the Deceiver was one of those items.
EverQuest II
The Guise of the Deceiver can be found EverQuest II by completing a heritage quest known as "A Missing Mask" in Nektropos Castle.
