Hamburger
A hamburger is a hunk of ground beef served between two pieces of bun-configured bread. Hamburgers are often served with a variety of toppings and condiments. It is named for the region in which it was invented, not for the kind of meat (as is often mistakenly suggested).
Does the McRib count as a Hamburger?
"That is a good question. What is the McRib made out of then? It's a pork patty just like a burger but they put BBQ sauce on it and press sections into it so it looks like little ribs.

I vote no. Its a sandwich. McRib is made from some sort of pork-like product. Pork and pork-like products come from pigs. A hambuger, to be considered a true hambuger must have a pattie made of beef or beef product. Beef comes from cows as we all know.
Chick-fil-a's, veggiebugers, BBQ sandwiches are all disqualifed from the Hambuger title.
I'd have to agree that it's a burger, but not a hamburger. It is a formed patty (albeit in a slightly different shape than normal) from ground meat and filler (probably sawdust or vinyl shavings) which grants it burger status, although it's disqualified from being a hamburger as it lacks the required beef.
I had one once, and it was a surreal experience. Much like eating a McDonalds burger makes you feel like you're eating a machine's interpretation of what a hamburger should be, eating a McRib is like an approximation of pork ribs, but only in the vaguest sense.

As for that if ""ham""burgers are ground beef then why are they called ham?
i think that weve reached a new age of hamburgers, and really need to take a good look at ourselves and re-evaluate what a hamburger is. in an age where anything from a cow, to a turkey, to a homeless person can be easily ground up and put on a bun, a hamburger is becoming a much more general term, refering to an array or delicious food-like materials on a bun, and to discriminate against the mcrib and call it a mere "glorified sammich" just because its not beef or just because it might be made out of spiders or homeless people is blasphemy of the worst kind.
I've always thought of it as being a sandwich. The information in this thread regarding how it's made is deeply depressing, I actually used to like those things a lot time ago.
