A newspaper is a written publication that is distributed to the general public. A newspaper often contains news, information and advertising.
In many games, the player can find notes that contain story information, hints, codes to unlock doors, and so on. Especially common when there are no other characters around for the player to talk to.
Paper is a thin material made of plant fibres, used to write or print upon. In terms of Rock, Paper, Scissors; it defeats rock, but is defeated by scissors.
