    Iron Man is one of the most popular Marvel Comics super heroes and has been featured in many games, animated television shows, and is also the main character in the widely successful feature film series where he is portrayed by Robert Downey, Jr.

    When billionaire weapons manufacturer Tony Stark stepped on a land mine in Vietnam, everything changed. Shrapnel was lodged into his heart and his body recovered by a military warlord that was determined to force Tony to create weaponry for his army.  Instead, Tony used his technological genius to design a suit of armor which the chest plate also acted as an artificial heart to keep him alive. Tony used this suit of armor to escape his captors and return to the United States.

    Once back in in America, Tony improved his armor and began fighting crime as the Invincible Iron Man. Iron Man is a founding member of the Avengers and one of the most respected (and hated) heroes in the Marvel Universe.

    Gaming Trivia

    An evil doppelganger of the character appears in Capcom's Super NES game Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems.
