A concept in a game where the playable character can't run out of ammo, and doesn't need to pick up/buy ammo. In some cases, you still have to reload your weapon, but you will still have an endless amount of magazines.
The player is respawned (or has the option to respawn) immediately following death, and with minimal lost progress and little to no break in the action. This concept is often seen used in difficult or fast-paced games where frequent player death is treated as a learning experience.
Games in which the two main protagonists are of different species.
It's arguably the one move that symbolizes the medium to those outside it. The ability to jump, be it onto a building, a platform, or a skull, is one of the all time most important abilities ever put in a video game.
In Jak II the jumping "Jak" was not a feature, but the process of leaving a vehicle launches Jak upwards into the other hovering vehicles.
A rebellion created by Erol and the KG Death Bots.
King of the Hill is a popular game mode where the players have to stay in a designated area of a map to gain points. This mode is becoming increasingly popular in shooters.
A Christian military order from the middle ages, known for their skilled warriors wearing white mantles with an emblem of a red cross.
The soldiers of Baron Praxis' army.
Games with language selection allow the player to choose which language is displayed or spoken in the game.
A common type of stage based around the fire and/or lava element. Often platforming heavy and inhabited by fire-based enemies.
When a character grabs a ledge, in order to pull themselves up, or shimmy to the side until there's room. Mostly seen in 3rd person adventure games, but also in many platformers.
Loading Screens are specific screens that are displayed while a game is loading resources so that the player has something to distract them while the game loads. Loading Screens can be images, text or even mini-games - and sometimes a combination of all three.
Losing consciousness is often a result of being knocked out or fainting. In games, this mental state is often used to allow a checkpoint to be reached, for the plot to be moved forward, or even for location changes. Sometimes it can be a state of limbo between health being depleted and actual death.
This concept is for games in which at least one of the main characters is male.
A mascot is an iconic character heavily used in the advertising and marketing of a product, franchise, business, or company. Notable mascots include Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, Ulala, Mickey Mouse, and the Big Daddies.
A fixer of mechanical things that are broken. It's always good to have one near your tank or spaceship.
Many great heroes had to learn their skills from someone. This person would be the one.
The Hora-quan (a.k.a. Metal Heads) are a race of creatures that live outside of Haven City. They have gold gems inbedded in their skulls and need Dark Eco to survive.
These are often a departure from the conventional gameplay of a game. There have also been compilations; games including only minigames. The Mario Party series has a lot of minigames, too!
The minimap is a small, simplified version of a larger map. This plays a vital role in many games, especially Real Time Strategy, where it is important to have an overview of the entire map.
A popular mode in racing games in which players drive the various courses mirrored (example, a turn that used to be to the left is now to the right, etc...)
Platforms conveniently moving you towards your destination to allow the crossing of large expanses which would otherwise be impossible to cross.
A mode that allows a game to be replayed after a first completion, carrying over items, experience, weapons, and other elements from the first playthrough.
Characters controlled by the game for players to interact with, as opposed to player characters which are controlled by whomever is playing the game.
Non-linear level design where the player is able to freely traverse the game world and choose where and when to visit certain areas in the game.
In many games such as Devil May Cry and God of War, Orbs, or "Souls", if you will, spawn out of the enemies you destroy and provide you with either sweet life or power. Many times these "Orbs" can also be used as a currency of sorts to upgrade.
Despite it being mathematically impossible, some games allow players to go beyond 100% completion.
A partner is someone in a duo that shares the same status and/or billing. In video games, you often switch from one to the other because they have different strengths and weaknesses.
