Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards marks Kirby's last platforming appearance on a home console, and with the advent of a new title in the series, I figured this was an apt opportunity for a little trip back in time. How does it play? Kirby 64 is a fairly standard action platformer with a fairly standard story, but these ingredients come together in the hands of a talented developer to make an above-average game. Here’s where you cross your fingers and hope that your good friend doesn’t read your internet reviews. There is no greater way to devalue the birthday present that you’re fixing to give someone than for them to learn that you’ve slagged their present-to-be. And really, what kind of person buries the very gift they’re about to wrap and hand over? I don’t know. I don’t know. I remember first playing this game at my local McDonald's, when they were cool enough to have n64's on display, with games that would reset themselves each 20 minutes or so.5 games were available ; Pokemon Snap, Starfox 64, Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, and last but not least, Kirby 64 : The Crystal Shards.I was about 10 years old ; I would play whenever I had the occasion.
