Konata is one of the main characters of the Lucky Star manga and anime series and can be considered the head of the 4-girl group around which the story revolves. Small in size, as she claims she hasn't grown since sixth grade, Konata is by nature very athletic and generally rather smart, but hates to study. Instead, she prefers to pull all-nighters the day before a test, with remarkably good results.
Konata also tends to oversleep regularly or doze off during class, often because she has been up late, playing MMORPGs – with her teacher Nanako Kuroi...
Rather than investing her energy in her academics, the eccentric girl is a huge anime and manga fan as well as a video game expert, up to a point where she is easily able to beat her regularly studying friend Kagami at trivia-based games. Much of her passion for the otaku culture is credited to her father Soujirou Izumi, who often buys adult games for himself and then gives them to his daughter. Throughout the series, Konata often references many popular game, anime and manga franchises in comparison to real-world events, much to the irritation of Kagami, who is often part of her comparisons. Kagami for instance she accuses of being tsundere while Miyuki is very much of the moe archetype.
While she is knowledgable in all areas of otaku culture, often indirectly lecturing the reader/viewer about the meaning behind certain habits, her favorite franchise is certainly the Haruhi Suzumiya
series which is very often referenced during the show. Two music tracks of the Haruhi anime series, "Hare Hare Yukai" and "Koi no Mikuru Densetsu", both make appearences on the show as Konata's ringtones, she has a sizeable collection of figurines of the show's characters and a TV ad runs a Haruhi commercial. At one point in the anime, Konata even takes her friends to the Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekisou, a real-life event for Haruhi fans held on March 18, 2007. Incidentally, the roles of Konata Izumi and Haruhi Suzumiya are both voiced by the same person in both the original Japanese voice track as well as the English dub with Aya Hirano
voicing the Japanese characters while Wendee Lee is responsible for the English version. As a way to fund her interets, Konata has taken a part-time employment at a cosplay cafe in Akihabara, where she dresses up as Haruhi.
