I just pre-ordered the 360 version of this game and was just wondering if it going to be 1 or 2 discs like Mass Effect 2? I thought I heard something about it being 2 discs.

This is why I usually buy PS3 versions of games. Always be on one disc.

Yes, it was, and if you watch the footage they've put out, you can clearly see button prompts for PS3 buttons.

Also, to you PS3 version of RockStar game haters out there, do I really need to dig out the IGN review for GTAIV where they clearly state that the PS3 version runs better and has less pop-in? I will do it if I have to.

    This is true.

I'm sure which ever version you buy, the game will be great.

I could see it being two discs with all the changing textures in their new facial animation tech. I'll probably be getting it on PS3 for a change since it's actually the lead platform. Unless it's somehow inferior like GTA4 and RDR... but not likely.

I don't know enough about the game but they usually want to fit it to one disc if it is one free roaming city.

I hope not. It's not that it's hard or annoying to get up and change the disc, but the immersion kinda vanishes when a prompt comes up telling you to change discs and so on.

I don't know for certain, but given that you can supposedly take on cases in any order you choose, I think they'd have to keep it to one disc.  Mass Effect 2 had to throttle the story at certain points to make the disc swapping work - conceivably you could probably work that game so that you have to change discs more than twice, but BioWare designed it so that most players would finish the first set of story missions, be forced into a confrontation with the Collectors, then stay on Disc 2 until the endgame.  Unless L.A. Noire uses the second disc for data and lets you install all of it before starting, like Forza 3, then I have trouble picturing how an open-world game spread over multiple discs would work.
That is, assuming it's an open-world game.  It's a safe bet, but I don't think the developers have said anything explicit about that.

I was listening to Opie and Anthony yesterday on XM radio and they had Lazlow from Rockstar Games in studio showing off the game. He mentioned that the Xbox 360 version would have 3 DISCS personally the number of disks doesn't really bother me if you can just install them to the hard drive.

Who honestly gives a crap? If disc sapping is done poorly then fine but it's 2 swaps per story. People act like they never switch discs in their lives. I'm sure you don't have the same game in your machine for 5 years. Playing different games requires switching discs.

It seems as if people expect to fire their pistol, then be prompted to change the disc to see whether or not they hit somebody.

Buy the version you prefer. I had no idea so many players had both. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Multiple Discs reminds me of the days where I bought pc and ps1 games that had 4 or more cd's like UT2k4 and Final Fantasy 8 and Blade Runner...I like have multiple disced games.
