Hail to the king baby.
Now, I will be the first to say that I LOVE when a story has depth and plot. There is nothing better then playing a fleshed out character in a world that you can somehow relate to. However, ALL my preconceived ideas of how a game should be presented were thrown out when I played Left 4 Dead. Now, before you blow your top and start accusing me of having double standards I will tell you that I can only see the context of this game working in a zombie infested world and that is it. Why? Well, when it comes to zombies there is not much you SHOULD be explaining. The resident evil series, from what I have heard, have a nice plot to flesh out the absurd zombie transformation that that works fine and dandy but sometimes you are just a survivor trying to to exactly as your title states, survive. In left for dead you kill zombies with your friends and try to make it out of an overrun city alive. These zombies run, jump, explode and thrash about in any possible way to keep you from living but you have guns. That takes me to the point of this game I am still upset about. Left 4 Dead gives you a very limited selection of weaponry. You have the shotgun, hutting rifle (sniper rifle), automatic, and pistols. There is also Moltovs and pipe bombs to finish the ensemble but they don't to much to replace your desire for a chainsaw, or a rocket launcher.
Now, I know you want to say “No no no BT if you have chainsaws and rocket launchers the game is unrealistic, why would you be able to find these things” and I say “Hail to the king baby” as I cut your limbs off with my arm which I have replace with a chainsaw. Not once does Left 4 Dead TRY to make itself realistic. You could be fighting zombies in space and I would be just as happy, probably not. All things said, Left 4 Dead is a thumping good time. My love for zombies has been rekindled.
