Getting Up is a video game created by Atari and the Collective. It revolves around the main character, a punk named Trane, as he tries to take back the city of New Radius through the medium of vandalism.
I really liked this game. It had the right attitude; It wasn't in-your-face-yeah-boi-glocks-'n-drugs. The pre-rendered cutscenes were really stylish. The game also had a great incentive to 100%-it with rewards like concept art, which I love. It was really cool to meet infamous artists too. The biggest issue I noticed was the animations, they looked fine, but were slow, almost clunky, an example of "less frames = better gameplay."
I think the biggest problem with these freedom based games, like Mirror's Edge, JSRF, and Getting Up, is that the protagonists have this self-righteous mindset, and they feel the need to go after corrupt governments. Getting Up started alright enough, but of course it all escalated into some government conspiracy. They need to focus more on the characters selfish need to be known.
I remember buying the Collectors Edition of Getting Up for like 4.99 new at Circuit City way back when. I personally enjoyed the game and would love to see a sequel.
I loved Marc Ecko's Getting Up also. I was pretty young when I played it but I still remember everything about it. It was a really good game and different. I think I'm going to look for it and replay it.
