In case you didn’t listen to the latest Beastcast, they finally confirmed that Alex will be (supposedly) playing through the core trilogy (on PC, with some tuned-up graphics), with Vinny riding the shotgun. They also said that they’ve recorded an episode already and that it should be going up on tuesday.

...and it’s been tuesday for almost ten hours over here, so where’s muh episode? Getting stoked to refresh my memories of that thing.

Easily could be one of my fav features of all time honestly. So hyped.

I can already see the angry comments when Alex ignores a side quest or doesn’t level up in the most efficient manner.

Very much looking forward to this one! I haven't replayed the first Mass Effect since it came out on 360 (I did play it twice at the time) and this news has me mulling a replay on the PC to play along with them...

@dgtlty: They just might have. The Navarro Effect and Don’t Fear The Reapers suggestions from the comments were pretty good.

I just hope that Abby made a real banger intro for the series.

I would say that I don't care about Mass Effect... but I said the same about Yakuza before Beast in the East, and now I'm a diehard fan. Take me to space, Beast Crew!

I'm going to watch this. I never finished the 2nd or 3rd games, so this is a great way to see them all the way through.

Plus, Alex and Vinny. Charming duo to spend 100 hours with.

I'm guessing it's a subscribed thing? Also, has he ever gone through the trio before? It seems hard to believe he hadn't, but why else would they do it?

@ntm: The last five minutes of the Beastcast cover this. Sounds like he has at least tried them (assuming he meant the first one), but that’s about it. I’d imagine it’s a subscriber series.

Wat, this is real?! OMG, I can't wait, I'm so hyped, I love the whole series! (even Andromeda). Played through them multiple times with ME2 being my favorite. Giant Bomb has been so crazy awesome in the past year or two with its series, so much good stuff from both coasts. This thread just made my day! Shoulda listened to Beastcast. Can't wait, yooooo! This is gonna be a long one unless they do mostly main story, but either way, holy crap, this is awesome. Some kinda face cam would be nice, but I don't wanna get my hopes up. (I just love seeing reactions not just hearing)

@nodima: Not sure about shows changing their names after the pilot, but FX's The Shield was originally advertised as Rampart. They were advertising and already had filmed at least one episode, because the ads used footage from the show.

Alex confirmed they will not change the name. Also Abby already made the great intro.

I thought the name Mass Alex was terrible, but then I realized how much it bothered some people and now I love that name. I hope we get Mass Alex t-shirts, Mass Alex pint glasses. I hope Mass Alex becomes the longest running feature in the history of the site.

I'll judge the quality of the texture packs they use by how Garrus looks. In the original PC version, for some unknown reason Garrus had the lowest quality texture for his face. He's the only character in the game that has a low quality face. One of the best characters that comes with you has the worst quality face. I can find a bunch of random Turians with only one line and they'll look better than Garrus. I can't believe they allowed him to look like that for the PC release and never, ever patched it because it would require a multi-gig patch.

This makes what happens in Mass Effect 2 an even bigger bummer than it already is.

Most excited I've been about a GB series in a while. The first episode was great! Thank you guys. The name is perfect.

This has the potential to be a Best Feature nominee come Game of the Year (with Hard Corps right there with it!)

Those mods make this look slick. ME 1 had some just-decent tactical gameplay, a crappy inventory UI, and some boring bits here and there, but the technical performance on 360 was by far its biggest flaw to me. If you can play it running like this these days, I might have to start recommending the series to more people again (without the "ME 1 might be hard to go back to" caveat).

Everything about this is perfect.

@cale: I’d be (positively) surprised if they put out multiple episodes a week, but I’m willing to bet for a weekly series like with Yakuza. Could be that they still play it several times a week but only put out episodes on a schedule.

But at least this has a less convoluted plot than Yakuza Zero, so Alex likely wouldn’t forget eveything even after a week.

For the record, I'm not against Mass Alex! It's gleefully raw.

This is the first time I've seen Mass Effect 1 outside of highlight reels to be honest. Holy crap is that inventory system confusing. Almost as seemingly random as the side quest log in Mass Effect 3!

If you want to see just how poorly that can go, watching the first few episodes of Natalie's Bloodborne playthrough at Waypoint, where they tried to do ~1 hour episodes and only recorded every two or three weeks...kind of brutal (though she's always been pretty solid with the bosses). There's a particular episode during her run that nearly broke her, and it seems like they've resolved themselves to ~three hour broadcasts since then.

I'm sure they'll do this series like Dan and Drew did MGS, with multiple episodes occurring during the same recording session but still only uploading one or two a week.

@htr10: I never even thought it was that bad, but like you, after the amount of times I've seen people complain about it now I want them to rename the entire site after it.

The first episode was great. I hope it is multiple times a week just so I get as much of it as possible.
