Despite some minor design flaws, it exceeds expectations. 0

When I first heard about Mass Effect, I was excited beyond belief. Bioware, known for their great role-playing experiences was nearly sure to deliver, and overall, they definitely did. Once you start the game, you get to make your character if you choose not to use the default (made famous by pre-release trailers). The character creation system allows you to decide on your character’s background story, which actually affects what other characters in the game say to you. You also get to customize...

Mass Effect 0

The game Mass Effect is a third person, over the shoulder shooter that envelops you in a futuristic environment complete with advanced technology, alien races and plenty of drama. The game begins with the creation of your character. BioWare has done a complete job of allowing you as a player to be exactly who you want to be; Gender, personality, history, and of course cosmetic attributes all are able to be customized. After that you choose from 5 classes of character. Each one offering a complete...

Emotional. Epic. Engaging. 0

Mass Effect is one of those games that just went over my head when it first came out. I hadn't tried it until my friend lent me the 360 version of it a few months ago. To put it simply, I played for about 6 hours and realized that I just had to have this game. So a few days later I returned Mass Effect for my friend, purchased my own (for the PC), and ended up beating it (twice).    StoryIn the year 2148, explorers on Mars discovered the remains of an ancient spacefaring civilization. In the d...

Mass Effect was a fun experience, bogged down by buggy graphics. 0

Ok, I need to get this off my chest.  I was not a fan of Kotor at all.  I didn't care for the sci-fi / Star Wars universe.  I didn't like the combat.  I felt the  quest system was to hard to navigate through, and finally, I hated how big and pointless the world was.  The first town you visit is bigger than some games, but it was full of pointless fetch quests and generic NPCs that say the same crap over and over again. </rant over>However, I had fun with Mass Effect, for the most part.  W...

Cool Sci-Fi World, Great Story, Your Way 0

Developer BioWare, famous for such games as Neverwinter Nights and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, it looks to continue to that pedigree with their latest title Mass Effect. The most important part of an RPG is its storyline and Mass Effect delivers, with a Sci-Fi Space Opera of universe shattering proportions. You play as Commander Shepard, this man or woman, can look anyway that you desire with the fairly in depth character designer. After a short first mission you become the first Hum...

Succeeds on the problems of KOTOR in an original world- 0

Bioware is primarily known for two games-Balders Gate- This game series set a new standard in the fantasy RPG world.KOTOR- Primarily known as the best Star Wars game ever made.As great as these two games are, They and Bioware have been limited by these licenses for a long time, so they decided to bring there great approach to game design to an Original title set in an Original Universe, The result of this is Called Mass Effect, and its one of the Greatest RPG's ever made. The Story in Mass Effect...

Great story, awesome graphics, many upgrades, a must play 0

Description Mass Effect was released on November 20th of 2007.  It was developed by BioWare and published by Microsoft Game Studios and Electronic Arts.  The lead designer was Casey Hudson and the lead composer was Jack Wall.  Mass Effect is one of the first open story line video games. Since I Played the story as a Vanguard I'm going to tell the story that way and what my outcome was.  The story follows a human who has chosen because he is the best of the best.  His name is Commander Shephar...

Mass Effect is a fantastic RPG that has some technical flaws 0

BioWare is famous for its sci-fi RPGs. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is arguably the best one to date. Their latest effort, Mass Effect, is no slouch either, but some unnacceptable technical issues hold it back from true greatness. Mass Effect's plot isn't exactly revolutionary: the galaxy is in trouble, and it is up to you to beat the odds and save it. However, there are some twists. Humanity is a mere fledgling in inter-galactic politics, so when you are tasked with saving the galaxy...

Space Lord mother... 0

I’m not exactly the kind of person who jumps for joy every time another sequel is announced to a gaming landscape that is peppered with sequels. (Some game sequels even have their own sequels; look at Call of Duty or the Tom Clancy games.) Yet, my brain will all but completely block out the existence of a new franchise, regardless of what, if any new ideas it may bring to the buffet table that is the holiday season. Mass Effect went unnoticed by me for a good seventeen months, and I only found m...

Awe-inspiring. 0

To berate this game for its buggy graphics, annoying elavators, save glitches, and convoluted inventory system would be to miss the point of the game entirely. Even years after it's release, its impact still remains: no other game captures conversation and story like this one. It takes a lot of effort to create a fictional universe that is both new and engaging, but this is where Mass Effect excels. Hours can be lost delving into the deep universe and learning more about it's inhabitants. Choice...

A Slightly Flawed Masterpiece 0

Mass Effect is an epic sci-fi action RPG from the folks at BioWare. You play as Commander Shepard, the first human to be inducted into the Spectres, a group of elite agents whose goal is to maintain galactic stability at any cost. Your job is to hunt down Saren, a rogue Spectre Agent who, without giving too much away, wants to use old technology to do bad things. That's the basic gist of the story. And I mean basic. It's near impossible to sum up the story in a few sentences because the Mass Ef...

Simply put, if you haven't experienced Mass Effect then you really haven't entered the "now" generation.  From its incredible scale to its dialogue to the wonderfully written characters and themes, Mass Effect is a golden god.  You are Commander Shepard, charged with freeing the galaxy from an evil rougue specter named Saren.  It is this course of action that leads to an incredible ending that I won't spoil.  Inventory can get a little clustered, mild frame dips (nothing serious), side missions ...

Mass Effect 0

The easiest way to describe Mass Effect, is that it’s like Kotor…on crack. For better or for worse though there are a lot of similarities to Bioware’s two previous games, Kotor and Jade Empire…fortunately though this one for the most part does not disappoint. I definitely had a love/hate relationship with this game through the first half of playing it, going from moments where I felt it was the greatest thing since sliced bread and then encountering things that quite literally made me shut off t...

Mass Effect Review - Xbox 360 0

2007 was a legendary year for the gaming industry. It was a year that was loaded with what would have been potential game of the year choices for any other year. It seemed as if that another triple-A title came in with every passing week. 2007’s releases were of such quality that one may even be so bold as to say that the bar for game developers all over the globe has officially been raised to a whole new level because of them. Considering this, it would undoubtedly be a difficult task to select...

Epic 0

Upon playing a game, many questions run through my mind as to what I think about the product as a whole. You might think graphics, sound, action, explosions (aka eye candy) are what makes a good game. To me the quality of its greatness is not justified by things that last only the first two minutes of playing a game. The thing that grabs me in a game are great characters that are interesting and a story that sends chills down your spine. Characters that have motives that relate to you, someone y...

It's full of Stars...try to find them all. 0

The best part about Role Playing Games is the fact that they are made for the gamer to experience the adventure at both their own pace and for the most part, branch the story to their specification. Because of this, RPGs can last a long time and you will still only experience a fraction of what the developers have to offer.Mass Effect is a perfect example of a solid Role Playing Game; one with a great story that is possible to play a number of ways. The game has you controlling a Human solider i...

A lot of things could be said about mass effect, Awesome storyline, Replayability, Great character customization, and the list goes on. Mass Effect 0

Mass EffectCombat: Since this an action rpg, combat stands out as the most important part. It's third person real time with a pausing mechanism where you can choose which of your abilities to use and switch your guns out. You have yourself and two companions out of a total of six on the battlefield. You fully control yourself and may take cover, lean out and shoot, or be a total dumbass and run right in front of the enemy shooting. You also do a melee attack with your gun if you are close enough...

Dissapointing, to say the least. 0

Mass Effect was for me at least was hyped beyond belief mostly by my friends who bought it and said "it's revolutionary" or "it's better than oblivion" (yeah right). So maybe it just didn't live up to the hype but I think it's just as bad as I think it is.    First off the combat system is far to easy and boring, you can get through every fight in the game by simply taking cover and using the lock on feature to pick all enemies off, with no need to aim at all, fights get extremely repetitive. Th...

Mass Effect: Do the Shepard! 0

Mass Effect was released in 2007 as the first Sci-Fi western RPG. This caused quite a stir in the gaming community, as the game’s developer, Bioware, had been known for their excellent renditions of RPGs in the past, such as Jade Empire and Baldur’s Gate. Anticipation mounted, and upon release, this game made a mark as one of the greatest western RPGs in existence. Set in a futuristic universe, Mass Effect is a squad based RPG, which blends combat, characterization and story into one, unique be...

Mass Effect for PC: A Shiny Gem in a Turd-filled Bucket of Issues 0

Mass Effect, a hallowed and highly anticipated RPG from BioWare first graced the Xbox 360 last year and was subject to many favorable reviews and commendations. Sadly, this is not the case for the PC version. While it has potential to be as great as its console sibling (where potential is measured by the power of your PC), it ultimately fell short when ran on something less beefier. I played Mass Effect on a machine slightly over the minimum requirements and I was shocked at how poorly it scaled...

Good game slow start. 0

Mass EffectReview.Admittedly within the spam section I did say it was a little boring, but having been reduced to having nothing else to play, it was either that or boredom. So I played that, got past all the intro, which is very slow to start but it's a nice introduction to get people knowing the game. The game's set in space, and earth colonising several galaxies, and some people think they're going to dominate space, so are trying to change this, that's the main part of the story line I've com...

Horrible nonsense 0

I played this game for like three hours and people who loved it says I didn't play it enough.   I say I played it all too long.  Horrible game play, unimaginable dull universe with nonsensical plot (if I found any).   I talked to a blue prostitue with tentcals on her head. She wanted my help, but since this was RPG I wanted to play the anti-hero so I said "No!". Then the game stagnated. Nothing happened while I looked at spiderlike creatures controlling a huge spaceship I wanted off of.  This ga...

OverviewMass Effect is a RPG and Third-Person Shooter for the Xbox 360 and PC. It is designed by Bioware and distributed by Microsoft. Massive Effort 0

Yeah, I know I'm late to the party reviewing this game...RPG's aren't my favorite genre to begin with, so I held out playing this for a while. Bioware, famous for developing some of the better RPG's on the market like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, launched a new Sci-fi IP in 2007 known as Mass Effect. The results are a sweeping storyline, fascinating characters and a deep third person experience that blurs the lines between shooters and RPG's.  As I've hinted before, RPG games are one...

'Virtual orgasmic rape' of the hype machine. Or not. 0

Let’s get this out of the way first – Bioware’s latest game was hyped up like nobody’s business. Early builds from the creators of RPG-heavy Knights of the Old Republic showed a surprisingly complex character whose responses to NPCs determined their future interactions with him or her, a solid over-the-shoulder combat shooter, as well as some pretty damn fine graphics. Luckily for everyone just waiting for another reason to buy a 360, it turns out that pretty much everything hinted at by preview...

Near perfect mix of tactic shooter, rpg and space exploration 0

Unlike Bioshock and a few other modern console ports, Mass Effect does not support a gamepad, so I had to go with mouse and keyboard, which however worked quite fine, as the UI of Mass Effect has been changed quite a bit to work well with mouse and keyboard. The game puts you in the shoes of Shepard on a quest to save the galaxy. RPG typical you can create a custom character at the start of the game and as always I chosed to pretty much skip that step and go with one of the provided default chara...

Bioware does their thing. 0

Mass Effect has some aspects that are good indicators that the game is interesting and deserves to be played. It's an RPG, but not an ordinary RPG, a Bioware RPG. The company that blessed the gaming world with classic titles within the genre certainly has good stuff in store for a new release. It's also a relief that people embrace the fact that RPGs are not just orcs, elves and fairies wielding swords combining magic potions in a Tolkien style fantasy world. The futuristic style is, if not grou...

Solid game 0

This game was one of the most hyped and anticipated games of 2007, it was promoted as a game where a wide open setting and an emotional roller coaster of a story were the main driving force . It came damn close to accomplishing both. From the moment you start the game you will be in awe of the graphics and the amount of interaction that takes place. Characters are beautifully modeled and the graphics rival that of any other game out there. Then again it is to be expected of a game that is runnin...

Excuse the pun but the title sums up Mass Effect into one word, although not perfect the BioWare game is simply amazing. Once into the main menu and the Start A New Career page, from here the(excusing the pun) Massiveness begins, you character can be customized from class, appearance, gender etc. You've then the choice on how to use yo...

Bioware's Mass Effect does a tremendous job of putting the player front and center in a new sci-fi universe.  There are issues with this game technically but it's story and characters are first rate.I cannot remember a movie in recent times that has such a rich universe, all credit to Bioware for really putting a lot of effort into this it is clear they really enjoyed making the game.Positives;- Great story, engaging combat, good character development, good graphics, top rate voice acting. Massive Fun 0

Let's just get this out of the way now: Mass Effect lives up to the countless cliché names it has received since its release. Whether it is "Massively Awesome," or "Massively Effective," it is an experience that everyone should have. If it could be mandatory for a game to be mandatory -- Mass Effect should be it. That's a lot to say about a game, and though it may seem that it is a flawless piece of work, it's not – but it's damn close. For the most part though, Mass Effect brings some serious c...

A milestone in demonstrating the persuasive power of hype 0

There is an awful lot which can be said of Bioware's latest RPG offering, Mass Effect. For the most part, it is a very ambitious title screaming of artistic inspiration, but it also harbors a huge list of problems and cut-corners. Both in terms of technical performance and design, development seems to have been expedited. while leaving behind countless traces of either a lack of time or effort. A seemingly very ambitious creation appears to have been castrated into nothing better than average by...

As someone who remembered the franchise fondly, but having only played each game once with different saves each time, I decided it was time for a revisiting. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but damn was the entire ride of Mass Effect an excellent one.The atmosphere and story still hold up really well 6 years after release. The world of Mass Effect is so flushed out it really does feel like a living breathing world that has been there forever. With the codec that is available in the...

What can I say about Mass Effect? It's truly brilliant! 0

The basic story behind Mass Effect is that you are Commander John Shepard and you lead a team from different races (Human, Asari, Salarian, Turian etc). You and your team are in race against time to stop a rogue Spectre called Saren, he has a army of these creatures called Geth at his command and you have to stop before he finds a way to destory the universe and all that lives. Riddled with technological hiccups, a great story prevails 0

Fair. What's a fair score for a game that is rich with story and character development with breathtaking visuals to boot but fails in technical performance and repetitive environments? A game that leaves you speechless by the end but trying to drive around to complete missions and actually get to the end is a frustrating chore? A game where every choice you make will have an impact on how that mission, and possibly future missions, plays out but auto-saves are so poorly placed that failing a bat...
