    Overview

Michael De Santa (real name Michael Townley) is a protagonist in Grand Theft Auto V. He is a former career criminal who fakes his own death in order to retire from bank robbery.

    History

Michael Townley was born in 1965 and raised in the American Midwest. As a child, he grew up in the deprived environment of a trailer park with his parents. Michael had a tough upbringing due to his alcoholic and physically abusive father.

After a successful career as a bank robber, Michael cut a deal with the FIB and then retired to live in the luxurious Rockford Hills of Los Santos. Unfortunately, his relationship with his family is not what he hoped it would be. He cannot stand his wife, who hates him and spends all of his money, and he cannot relate to either of his kids - his daughter Tracey is a spoiled brat and his son Jimmy is a lazy pothead. His money is quickly disappearing too, so rather than go crazy spending more time at home he decides to get back out there and start pulling heists again.

    Trivia

    • It is suggested that Michael is of Irish descent, as the player can equip him with many Celtic-themed tattoos. His original surname (Townley) may be further evidence of this.
