Micro Graphic Image was created by ex-employees of Games by Apollo. Games by Apollo was one of the few companies that made an excess of games for the Atari 2600 creating a ton of cheap games. In 1983, the company want able to satifsy creditors. The three ex-employees; Tim Martin, Robert Barber, and Cash Foley, programmers from Games by Apollo would go on to form MicroGraphicImage. Tim Martin had been one of the lead developers on the Atari 2600 platform and Cash Foley had been on the Atari 800. In addition, other employees of Apollo were hired on, including Van Mai, the creator of the first female protagonist in video games.
Tim Martin and Robert Barber, developed a game called Halloween based on the movie. The game had innovative ideas and music for the time. Halloween was released by Wizard Video Games before the video game crash in late 1983. This provided Tim and Rob funds to start Micro Graphic Image.
