Overview
Mistwalker is a Japanese game development corporation founded in 2004 by Hironobu Sakaguchi with financial help from Microsoft. Microsoft's involvement extended from the hope that Sakaguchi's reputation attached to Xbox 360 RPGs such as Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey would help drive sales in Japan, a region in which the Xbox brand has struggled since the first Xbox.
In addition to the above Mistwalker also developed the RPG Cry On, but was cancelled in late 2008. The company has also been behind games on other platforms, including ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat and Blue Dragon Plus for the Nintendo DS.
Mistwalker does not handle development of their titles by themselves. Rather, they work with outside developers such as Feel Plus, Artoon and Brownie Brown to handle the bulk of the game development process. Mistwalker's focus on the story and music, and to guide the overall development process.
Mistwalker's last major title was the critically acclaimed The Last Story for the Wii, published by Nintendo. Since then, Mistwalker has released two iOS/phone titles. Blade Guardian (a Tower Defense game) and Party Wave (a surfing game).
