Even $15 just seems SO stupidly high priced to me.  I can't imagine paying that much for just a few maps. MAPS.

I wonder if they'll jack the next set up to $20. Seems like they could get away with it, sigh.

Yeah, I agree that Activision can get away with $20 for a map pack. Its the wallets that votes people, keep that in mind.

I've got a certain set of prices I am willing to pay for DLC. I'll pay up to

    5 dollars for maps
10 dollars for more single player (Borderlands, Fallout)
15 dollars for a full game

Fuck analysts, they don't actually play the games they talk about. I definitly bought that map pack, but it hurt a lot. If the price was any higher there is no way i would have bought it.

@TorgoGrooves89:  Well you can't really blame them. Analysts are there to do the mathematical number crunching, stats and facts and shit. That's what they get paid for.

The analysis also didn't consider peer pressure into buying map packs. The only time I bought the original map pack was because all my friends had the pack we all played it.

It's quite obvious that $15 wasn't too high.

Those of us in the know might think $15 is absolutely ridiculous (which it is), but there are a huge amount of people (the "Madden" crowd as it were) that play MW2 and only MW2 who need those maps. 2.5 million+ of them I'd say.

MW freaks would have paid more, I concur. Let's not pretend this is anyone's last time dealing with Activision. You're going to bend over again when Starcraft 2 comes out. You're like a crackwhore man, you'll do anything and they know it.

Analyst: They could probably get away with charging more, evidently people still buys it at 15 bucks.
Gamers: Fuck you, go suck a cock you're not charging us more!
Analyst: ... *I'm* not the one putting up the price tag for MW2... I'm just an analys..
Gamers: Fuck you fuck you fuck you! 15bucks is already overpriced
Analyst: As I said, I'm not..
    Gamers: Shut up, fuck you

This analyst is an idiot. The reason it sold so well is because its biggest market is the adolescent market (12-16) who beg their parents for money and scrape together what they can to buy it because all their butt buddies are buy the map pack as well. Now the older gamers (19-??) are the ones who begrudingly bought the map pack, while mumbing under their breath, mostly because $15 is not that expensive but its not chump change for a few new maps. I think the majority of the older gamers would instantly refuse to buy the map pack if it reached a $20 premium because honestly thats the price of a Platinum/Greatest Hits game or for some the price of a decent used game.  Sure a lot of people will buy new maps for $20 but by raising the price they would lose a huge following.

Why sell 2.5 million at $15 and not, lets say, lower the price to $10 and potentially sell 4 million or more?

It's worth what people will pay for it.  If you're playing MW2 day in day out, then it's a small price to pay for the hours you'll get out of it.  The game itself is insane value for those that do end up playing it that often.  I played it for exactly how long it took to finish the campaign, but I knew that would be the case before I bought it, so I can't really complain.

I'm not really a big fan of these little bits and pieces of DLC tbh.  I'd rather have just had one proper Borderlands or Fallout 3 expansion for $25 or $30, for example - those DLCs come out and every time I just think "this is hardly worth bothering with".  I thought DA: Awakening was great - better than the OC in fact.  Bring back proper expansion packs I say.

Because they know they wouldn't sell 1.5 million extra copies at that price.  Basically anybody still playing regularly will end up buying this map pack I would think.  Increase the price (within reason) and they'll still buy it, but drop the price and they won't suddenly find a substantial number of extra regular players to sell too.

The scary thing is that the analyst is correct. Seems 2.5 million douchebags where dumb enough to pay 15$ for it, meaning in the future such packs WILL most likely become 20$.

Over the last year I have bought four things that cost 1200 points: Braid, Physconaughts, Shadow Complex and the MW2 map pack.
I can compare their respective values in different ways:
I definitely have spent the most time playing the MW2 map pack.
Shadow Complex is the best game listed and i would have happily paid twice as much for it.
Phyconaughts has a few issues but was one of the most memorable and funny games I have ever played and I will still be talking about it in 10 years.
Braid was very short, but very beautiful (like  Kylie Minogue...sorry)
Even though I have spent the most time with the MW2 map pack, it is the one that one day I will have completely forgotten about even owning. So is it good value? Well it wasnt £40, so sure it was ok value

Oh, they'd absolutely get away with it. I'd be willing to bet they can do it with an even 2000 points/$25.

That mindset is why I shipped off MW2 through Goozex.

I agree with the guy who said "peer pressure" was the reason a lot of people bought the Stimulus Package. You don't want to be ostracized by your XBL friends and not pay 1200 points for the new maps. These adolescents want to maintain their Xbox 360 hip quotient and have no choice. Hey, these tweens and teens have lots of disposable income. Activision knows it. Most of these people like spending their money on garbage and then curse people out who tell them they are wasting their money.

Sadly, the people on PSN and the PC will do the same in a couple of weeks. So many people love this series. They are probably the same guys who would be scared for their lives if the U.S. ever brought back the draft.

They could have charged so much more.  Even if they charged $20 for the map pack and one third of the 2.5 million people didn't buy it they would still have made a $2.5 profit.
