Classic Mario gameplay, in a cheap package.
Something is different; it just doesn’t feel right, someone has changed. I’m not sure if it’s me or Mario but something is definitely amiss. I am not supposed to be reacting this way but the only thing that springs to mind when I think of New Super Mario Bros. Wii is its failures. I should be ecstatic, a new side scrolling Mario, a spiritual successor to Super Mario Bros. 3, this is a dream come true, and yet I am not dreaming.
Once again the waggle strikes, Nintendo has taken my childhood and made it motion sensitive, and my inner child is not happy about it! To be honest it could have been a lot worse but I found the motion control to be almost pointless. Besides a few innovative uses in certain instances; such as controlling a light to guide Mario in the dark, the waggle did more harm then good. Tilting the controller to sway a platform makes sense in a way, but having to shake to pick up objects or to use the propeller in the new suit does nothing to enhance gameplay, only taking away from the old school Mario vibe. It frustrated by making it even harder to control Mario’s movement with the controller twitching.
