    NinjaTown Review

NinjaTown for the DS is yet another Tower Defense type game that seems to be flooding the marketplace. At first look this game looks a bit childish, and appears to be the type of game that is better suited for the young ones, but that would be a bad assumption. The complexity and strategy that you have to deploy throughout the 36 levels will require some keen intellect as well as some cut-throat strategies. In NinjaTown you will be placing buildings that will house different types of ninjas to help combat the different types of demons, you'll also be playing buildings that will help strengthen the ninjas in the surrounding area.

The graphics are simple and clean. Each ninja has a distinct look, so there's no way to confuse them, as well as their associated buildings. The same goes for the demons,it is clear what they are and what level they are.

The music is simple and light, slightly playful. Though I have to say that I play the majority of the game on mute because of the repetitive noises created by fighting the demons.

The controls are all about the stylus. In this respect its your basic point and click type game. You'll be using the stylus to select a plot of 'usable' land, and then selecting what you want to build there. Thankfully the ninjas will go attack when demons come within thier radius so you won't have to worry about selecting ninjas and then selecting a target. I would recommend the d-pad for moving around the map over the stylus though, I think it gives you a quicker response time that way.

So the gameplay is as follows. There's a big bad demon that is coming to town to attack the ninjas, why no one really knows. He will be sending his henchmen, several different types of demons, to test your defenses. You will have to use an assortment of ninjas to stop those demons, and save the town. Ironically enough though, every level you play gets you closer to the center of town, and yet to get there you have to halt the advancement of the enemy.

Overall this game at first seemed a bit simple, and a bit light, but I have to say that that changes rather quickly. This truly is a Tower Defense type game that will have you coming back for more. It is sad that there is only so much to the game in the end, and I wish there was a way to expand on the levels, but it is what it is. If you have a DS and want a quirky ninja tower defense game, then you need to get this game. I give this game a 8.6 out of 10.

Why Play This When PixelJunk Monsters Exists 0

Maybe I'm spoiled, but my first introduction to the tower defense genre was PixelJunk Monsters. Monsters is one of my favorite games of all time, and a game that really set the bar high for the entire genre. Playing Ninjatown just made me appreciate all the things that Q Games did right with PixelJunk Monsters. The towers (ninjas) all felt nearly identical aside from the standard melee vs. ranged unit. Everytime I unlocked a new unit, it felt like a small variation on a theme rather than a new w...

      A Polished Tower Defense-style Game 0

Ninjatown may look like some generic, cutesy baby game, but it most certainly is not.  You are put in control of a town of Ninjas who must keep evil Mr. Demon from stealing a secret cookie formula and generally wreaking havoc upon the world.Sounds like winner, no?  Trust me , it is.Like in most Tower Defense games, you're given a map on which to build structures.  These structures will attack or in some way help stop the rush of enemies trying to get from one side of the map to the other.  In Ni...
