Onyxia is one of the more well known dragons of the Black Dragonflight and the current broodmother of said flight. She and her brother, Nefarian, have gone into a pact to take control of the flight while their father, the infamous Deathwing, is missing. To expand her control, she has manipulated much mortal politics, mainly under the guise of Lady Katrana Prestor in Stormwind. Here she had Bolvar Fordragon under her thumb, via means of a controlling amulet which she gave him, giving her near total control of all Stormwind matters. Marshal Windsor, Varian Wrynn and others eventually unmasked her and freed Bolvar from her control, but she took Varian's son, Anduin Wrynn, back to her lair as a hostage. They ventured into her lair in the Wyrmbog, rescued Anduin and slayed her. Her head was then hung from the gates of Stormwind so that all may know what took place that day.
In honor of the World of Warcraft 5-year anniversary, the dreaded brood mother Onyxia is being revamped, as part of the upcoming 3.2.2 content patch. Onyxia has been scaled to offer new challenges to level 80 players and is now available for 10- and 25- player modes.
