After watching the Idle Thumbs stream with Steve Gaynor playing through Minerva's Den and then going back to their previous stream where they played the original X-COM, I thought screw it and watched their 4 hour live stream of DayZ. I bought ArmA 2 during the Summer Sale 'cause all the hype around DayZ made me really really curious. I never got around to invest much time into it though. Struggling with the controls and not knowing the first thing about the game's actual mechanics was very off-putting in my initial session (lasting 10 minutes, 8 of which were spent running and slowly bleeding out).
The Idle Thumbs stream was really fascinating (Sean finding a bike right in the beginning) and also highly educational. I finally booted up the game to really dive in and use the knowledge I had learned watching the Thumbs play. Needless to say, things went horribly ... I might write a full-on blog post later.
I found a hatchet (with my second character of the day) after crawling through a town with dozens of zombies.The hatchet became my new best friend. My very first weapon in the game.The search for an empty water bottle forces me to enter this zombie infested town. My thirst indicator indicates a horrible things (the red bottle icon).I would not find salvation in this church. But I'd find a WW I rifle and an empty water bottle to the left of this building in an entrance way.
I did not manage to take a screenshot to close this out but right after I found the rifle and spent 10 minutes fighting with the inventory management (could not figure out how to keep the rifle AND the hatchet with the latter being used as my primary weapon), I found myself in a backyard surrounded by zombies, one of which I took out without any problems while the second must've punched me right in the face since I got knocked out, came to and managed to kill it after which I immediately died (I think I bled out).
I played PlanetSide 2 for the first time yesterday, only for 20 minutes or so just to try it out. I'll admit I didn't understand what I was supposed to do... so I went ahead and FELL THROUGH THE MAP. That wasn't right either.
Ok, realizing it's not fair showing off a screenshot of a bug. All games have bugs. PlanetSide 2 seems really great and does have some great moments. Both in graphics and in purpose.
My monitor is fucked right now, so I can only play on my natty ass 1280x1024 from like 2004 until Xmas. Oh well, still got some great screenshots in Sleepy Dawgz.

I haven't had this much fun in an open world in a long time. I have a few gripes (those fucking van missions and the fact that every car feels about as heavy as an eighteen wheeler) but for the most part this game is fucking rad. I could just walk around looking for health shrines, statues, and beating up dudes all day. Oh, and those bikes are amazing to drive.

This is a great quest in Skyrim. The 'blood moon' is a really striking visual.Star Wars Force Unleashed II - It's a dumb game, but undeniably pretty. Got it insanely cheap and for that price it was a fun romp.More Skyrim. I'd forgotten how gorgeous this game is, especially with ENB mods.Dark Souls, in the Darkroot Gardens taking a break after some PVP. Wearing the armour of Artorias. One of the best RPGs of this generation.Black Mesa. IT CAME OUT! And it was really great.This is DOOM running all sorts of crazy mods to show characters and weapons in 3D. Classic game.
