    £ 229.99 Toys R Us Slim 120gb (down from £425 to £400 to £350 to £299 to £270 to £250)
£15 more and you get Fifa 10 (worth it just to trade in)

Its still fall off the ideal price of  £126, which is what our USA friends are basically paying.

Unbelievably, that's still $60 more than the PS3 Slim costs in the US after converting the currency.

I feel sorry for Australia. Ridiculous gaming prices, and getting any violent-related video game banned in the country.

Looks like Au is still stuck on the "PAL" RecommendedRetailPrice, which is £270 in the UK. But our shops have dropped that twice in a price war.

    Go go consumer buying power
Fail fail Sony RRP's for "PAL" regions

I didn't know it was that severe though. I figured it was only Aussie's who got badly ripped off.

Considering we get 91 cents to the US dollar, it is ridiculous.  When the Australian dollar is worth more than the US dollar next year (it will happen), it will look even worse.

I had a friend bring back a Wii from Canada and it was $100 cheaper than local.  If it were not for eletrical cord and compatibility issues, plus some major shipping costs, I would import.  At least I get my games cheaper than local with importing - that's a plus.

Maybe I'm letting my ignorance show, but wouldn't ordering it online from US distributors be a way around these rip off prices?

The PS3 really has been getting a lot of love here in the UK over the last few months. Sales for the console have boomed considering when it first release in the UK we got shafted merrily by Sony. They pretty much switched the dollar sign out from the US price and put a pound sign in front of it.

It can cost as much as $100 US to ship it.  Plus, if it doesn't go through normal post, it goes through customs.  There is no tax for me to pay, but there is a significant "paper" cost for them to release it.  So, no, unless a friend brings it home, or mails it direct, it isn't an option.

The length of time it would take for the product to arrive combined with the delivery costs of shipping it to your country / address on top of the import charges for releasing the item from customs and any other costs you may need to change plugs really doesn't make it that more ideal than buying it straight out the local shop.

Does that price include the VAT as most UK prices do to my knowledge?

It's kinda funny, especially when Playstation 3 was released, to hear all the whining that it's way too expensive. Especially from Americans :D. Even Australians has it better than here in Finland :D. Here is some PS3 prices with the current exchange rates:

    PS3 in launch: 699€ = $1048.50
    PS3 in December 2007 (when I bought it): 499€ = $748.50
    PS3 Slim: 359€ = $538.50

    New PS3 game: 69€ = $103.50
