    The Perfect Step Forward

The good thing about Pokemon Gold and Silver is that it really didn't need to upgrade the system fully yet. When Ruby and Sapphire came, I feel like the formula had run its course... where as with Gold and Silver, the franchise hadn't grown and been around long enough that this moderate upgrade wasn't enough. It really was. Looking at the game purely objectively, this could easily be the best Pokemon game of all time.

The details on the Pokemon's sprites this time during battles are so much more intricate than the original game, oweing to the Game Boy Colors better specs. The sound is around the same level of quality as the original game and the battle mechanics themselves are just about the same, with some more specifications in terms of Pokemon types. Pokemon Gold and Silver is the same game as Red and Blue, just upgraded... and with essentially twice the game and twice the amount of Pokemon, this is really all we needed. Game Boy Color classic.
