We all know that Pokemon is one of Nintendo's most successful franchises.

So I just have to ask, now that they have a console with online capabilities, why isn't there a Pokemon MMO?  It seems to me that a Pokemon MMO that included every Pokemon in that one game would be basically one of their best games ever.

Let's go Giant Bomb!  Go talk to Nintendo for us!

Pokemon is still an incredibly lucrative franchise, especially when concerning the main hand held games. It would be an intriguing experience to finally see Nintendo develop a true Pokemon MMO and would make a great deal of sense considering the large focus on player interactivity. (Right from the beginning, the game advocated the use of multiplayer for trading and battling via link cables)

Such a development would seem natural, although it remains to be seen whether Nintendo would actually take such a route with this franchise, given the various issues regarding online.

Is there really a need for another MMO? I mean, really?

I think the issue is not the NEED, because we all know Nintendo is a profit-maximizing firm who operates primarily for profit and is not concerned with the populace of MMO games on the market.  As I understand the genius behind a game like that and it's probably the best way to structure a new Pokemon game, I also see why Nintendo would be opposed to that.  Firstly, Nintendo has never embraced the concept of online community that requires the instant and constant interaction between strangers.  That concept of connectivity is the principal method by which an MMO is played, and that is a very risky problem which Nintendo would need to navigate through.  Secondly Nintendo has a very simple structure for producing Pokemon games, which is simply making two nearly identical games (with enough difference to make certain consumers purchase both) and release them at the same time.  With that premise in mind it would require massive amounts of capital for Nintendo (or a reliable first-party publisher) to produce a game that has such an established franchise banking on its success.  If Nintendo produced this MMO and it flopped it could be very costly in terms of its reflection on the Pokemon name.  Even though I believe the MMO would flourish and make mad dough, I think the first problem of social connectivity would detour Nintendo from taking a risk like that.

I don't think a Poke'mon MMO would work out to well imo

I could see why it sounds like its perfect MMO material but I'm not so sure that it would work.

I would LOVE to see a Harvest Moon MMO, but that's never going to happen. :'(

I like my pokemon games to be about 40 hours long, rediculously easy, and have nothing to do after you catch them all except wait until the next generation of catchable pokemon.

A Pokemon MMO would be awesome, but Nintendo would have to put it on Wii or DS and that wouldn't work very well. They could develop games for PC, but then nobody would buy their system, so that would be pointless.

A Pokemon MMO, despite how awesome it would be, would never happen this generation. Maybe next generation.

Diamond and Pearl were pretty good. The online features were well implemented.

I'm looking forward to the next batch.

Also my ass 10 years ago. Silver and Gold were the best, and among the best Game Boy games.

The classic Pokemon owned everything back in the day.  I picked up Pearl last year and the newer Pokemon just aren't the same."

I LOOOVVVVEEEEEDDDD the first Pokemon games and they are really the only ones i ever like. I was just about to make a forum about this but i saw this one. I really think a Pokemon MMO made correctly could be the next big MMO and truely be the one to dethron WOW as the #1 MMO. I agree that pokemon did almost die a while ago when they started going retarded and makeing the dumbest fuckin pokemon ever. Isnt there like 2500 pokemon now er some shit lol. There are truely only 151 pokemon that really exist and maybe you could add a few others that arent stupid but mainly just 151. But if they did make a Pokemon MMO, i think it would be the thing to revive the name and it would bring in millions for nintendo. So really i think it would be fiscally iresponsible for nintendo not to make one lol.

And if they dont make an MMO, then why not bring the game to the Wii with a remake or the old games but in 3D. I can garentee they would sell like crazy.

If they made it,  I think they would need to change the gameplay a lot to make it a little more interesting.  Also, it would require no friend codes and I don't think Nintendo would want to abandon those.  So, not happening.
