Overview
Poliwrath is a water/fighting-type pokemon first found in Pokemon Red/Blue. Poliwrath is a stocky pokemon with bulky, muscular arms - the result of hours of practice. Using its spiral belly, a trait it inherited from Poliwhirl, Poliwrath confuses its enemies before heading in for the one-two knock-out punch.

Evolution
Evolves from: Poliwhirl
Evolves into: none
Poliwrath is the final evolution of Poliwag and Poliwhirl. Poliwrath gains the addition of the fighting type on top of the water type inherited from Poliwhirl.
Type
Water/Fighting type.
Defensive Effectiveness:
x2 weak against electric, fighting, flying, grass and psychic attacks.
x0.5 resistant to bug, dark, fire, ice, rock, steel and water attacks.
Water/Fighting-type pokemon have no immunities.
Offensive Effectiveness:
x4 super effective attacks against dark, fire, ground, ice, normal, rock and steel mixed-types.
x2 super effective attacks against dark, fire, ground, ice, normal, rock and steel types.
x0.5 less effective attacks against bug, dragon, flying, grass, poison and psychic types.
x0.25 less effective attacks against bug, dragon, flying, grass, poison and psychic mixed-types.
Water/Fighting-type pokemon are ineffective against ghost-type pokemon.
Water/Fighting-type pokemon combine the best and worst of fighting and water types. Between these two types there is very little synergy; no attack or defence stats stack to provide x0.25 protection. On the plus side, this also means there are no x4 weaknesses to attack, making defence a lot easier for water/fighting-type pokemon.
Water/Fighting-type pokemon are super-effective against dark, fire, ground, ice, normal, rock and steel mixed types. Between water's ability to blast back fire, ground and rock and fighting's ability to pound through dark, normal, ice and steel, water/fighting-type pokemon have numerous strengths to take advantage of. Converse to this, water/fighting is also weak when attacking numerous pokemon; bug, dragon, flying, grass, poison and psychic mixed-types have little to fear from fighting/water-type pokemon. Gaining fighting's ineffectiveness against ghost-type pokemon makes this type less versatile than its water counterpart.
Water/Fighting-type pokemon are x2 weak to electric, fighting, flying, grass and psychic attacks. One advantage to the lack of synergy between water and fighting is the fact that this combined type does not have an x4 weaknesses when being attacked. Water/Fighting has numerous strengths making it more resistant to attacks from bug, dark, fire, ice, rock, steel and water type pokemon. Each of these attack-types are rebuffed by the strengths in either water or fighting, preventing them from gaining the advantage and doing extra damage.
Poliwrath does well in battles against pokemon such as Glaceon, Houndoom and Probopass. These dark, fire, ice, rock and steel-type pokemon fall to Poliwrath's powerful water moves backed by its forceful fighting strength. Unable to penetrate Poliwrath's body with both water and fighting's defences, these pokemon do less damage against this water/fighting-type pokemon.
Poliwrath does poorly in battles verses pokemon such as Celebi, Jumpluff and Xatu. These flying, grass and psychic-type pokemon easily beat through Poliwrath's defences, flying and psychic dodging through Poliwrath's water-type strengths to take advantage of its fighting-type weaknesses; grass easily passing through fighting-type defences to the detriment of Poliwrath's water-based weaknesses.
