Came across this as I was just setting wiki links for a region page.
Under locations, there are broad concepts such as mountains, swamp, river, sewer, etc. listed as locations. Should locations not be for a specific example of each? i.e something like the Himalayas or the Alps are a location, but mountains are merely a concept, they are not a location as-of-themselves.
I'm talking basically the difference between the difference between "a mountain" and "the mountain." "A mountain" could refer to any mountain (a concept, an idea), but "the mountain" refers to a specific one (an actual place).
If there's a reason it's currently set-up like it is, I'd love to know the reason; but I seriously think they need to be re-categorized.
How are you trying to add them? I'm seeing no problems adding items to the location either through the location tab on infobox on the side of the main page, or by going directly to the game's location page.
Are you making sure to hit the "Edit this wiki page" button at the top of the page first?
The guide system was revamped for the new site, namely in that there's now only one unified guide per game. Dave made a post a few months ago detailing the system, you can find it here: Changing the Guide System on Giant Bomb.
The important part was to back up the guides:
So if you're a guide author looking to keep your guide on Giant Bomb past the relaunch follow these simple steps.
Copy your guide and paste it into a forum post attached to that game's forum.
Tell a mod, and have them lock and pin it for you.
When the new site rolls around, that forum post will come over. Simply copy the guide from the post and add it to that game's guide (which will be blank).
Earn a bunch of points, have my thanks, and know that there's now a public record of the edits made to your guide that can be rolled back at anytime.
If you have a back-up, just repost them. I don't believe there are any plans for automatic porting -- because it would probably just lead to a mess for games with lots of guides.
If you don't have a back-up, some other users had a similar issue earlier in the week and we found that a large number of them are archived on the wayback machine over at archive.org. The easiest way to find them was to go to the users profile then the guide page, but I checked yours and it seems like the robot missed them or you made them after it's last sweep.
I was touching up the Super Mario Galaxy 2 page today and came across a section near the end that's just a list of levels. I think that's a great candidate for moving to a guide.
Yeah, this was exactly the sort of thing I had in mind when I made this topic.
Could I get a weigh in from someone on the mod-team/staff on this? Are there any hard-set rules for what belongs where on the game spaces vs. guide spaces? Or should I just be bold and start moving guide-like information over?
If you right-click a table (but not in the header) you'll get a small drop-down menu with some options for editing it:
Unfortunately, at least in Chrome (Version 24.0.1312.57 m), it doesn't seem to play nice with the browser default right-click context menu, so you may have to click around to get it into a position where you can actually use it.
