" I love the new layout except for a few minor issues. When I click the search bar to starting typing, it expands which is really neat. However, anything to the right of that bar gets smushed and causes it to look a little off.

Thanks. We figured out the problem. The media query stuff we are doing was failing cause of YUI compressor. We are updating but problem probably won't get fixed till Monday. Its also the reason that non box-flex browsers such as IE and opera are not getting adjustments in the nav as you make the window bigger.

" @alexisg: Just noticed a bug: If you click in the right side of the search-field (just behind the "search for something" text), you'll need to click again to be able to enter text. If you click anywhere else, everything acts normal. "
Browser? I think its the options link getting in the way. But not sure. I am not seeing it.

Thanks. Yeah fonts are going back to old as we speak. Deployment takes a few minutes

" I don't like it at all. I hope it's still being tweaked actively.  - The fonts are horrible - The top bar is way too wide - The left navigation bar has some seriously off looking font   Basically everything is now less readable and takes up more space.  I'm using Firefox 4 so maybe something is just up with my browser rendering but I doubt it.  Edit: Yeah it renders the top bar way different in IE but still has the issues above "
Does it look something like this?  If so, they're working on it.  As for the fonts, they'll be reverting them soon.

@Snide:@alexisg: As you can see above, the bar is much shorter now (not taking up the whole screen anymore), but it's still broken.  When I scroll over the forums tab, it shrinks to the size of the forum list, but when I take it off, it returns to that size.  All the other drop-downs remain at that size. "
This is FF 3.5? box-flex is borked in that version for some reason. Its fine in 3.6 or 4.

" I have a feeling it might look fine in other browsers maybe, but the way Firefox 4.0 handles text everything is really bulky/hard to read. "
Fix is in the works. Should be going out soon. We are stripping the custom fonts out for now. It was looking super sharp in Safari, Chrome, but testing in FF was a pain for a bunch of tech reasons.

If you're running Firefox and have Stylish installed (it may also work with Chrome but I can't be sure), take this script and change one of the URLs to this site. Scroll down until you find 'font-family' and then change it to something you prefer. Delete the line about font-size, which should be directly below. If you're wondering why I use this script myself, it's because I've had this one work for everything I've used it with. I'm not sure why that is, but I disliked the font as well so I felt it was worthwhile. "
Fonts should now be back to Helvetica,Arial in the body. Uh refresh and some of you may need to wait a little more.

All, things are still rolling out.
So a few notes for all of you are interested.

  • The main purpose of this was to simply reskin the header. We have other plans for the sites but for now the big thing we wanted to do was improve the navigation.
  • The nav is using box-flex css to make it all stretchy and fluid which right now is only supported in Safari, Chrome and Firefox. Other browsers will get a somewhat more simplified version.
  • The font being used is Proxima and then sans-serif (so Helvetica, Arial, etc depending on your browser).  Ehh yeah I hear ya on the decision on this. I thought I'd try it and see how it looks. If we roll back I will probably go back to helvetica for body and keep custom fonts on the header.
  • Uh yeah there will be some bugs... but we are working on it. Feedback was initially good, especailly after a few thousand people saw this video:  http://alexisgallisa.com/work/gbSearch/gbnav.html
  • so we decided to go with it and then tweak after some feedback. We are definitely listening, constructive feedback is always appreciated.
  • If you do have a bug please send OS, browser and screenshot if you can. Thanks.
