@voidprod: Cool. I was going to buy it off of Amazon, I got a $50 gift card and I have $120 in textbook trade-ins as well. I be getting it at a substantial discount that way. So with that said should I just go ahead and get one? I know there aren;t alot of big games for PS4 right now but there are alot of BIG Indie games only on PS4, No Man's Sky, is pretty much the game that peaked my interest in a PS4.

It's got some good stuff coming. Bloodborne in particular. And like you say, they're killing it on the indie side of things. And having now purchased an xbox one controller for my PC I don't ever want to buy an xbox unless they revise the thing, they managed to make it feel worse in every possible way compared to the 360 pad. Considering how much work went into the thing it's quite the achievement.

Kotaku now has Jason Schreier, Steven Totillo and Patrick Klepek? I guess it's the only gaming site that will have journalism now! At least its someplace. Don't be a marketer Patrick! Be a journalist!

Never read a Schreier piece that wasn't slobbering over some sub-mediocre jrpg or posting incredibly uninteresting things about maid cafes or something. That dude's a journalist?

I've read some that I thought were researched well. I'm not saying any games journalist is good, because it's nearly all marketing and they all need to be 1000% better, but he's one of the best in my opinion. One of the only ones that at least seems to flirt with the idea of journalistic integrity in the gaming space. I think those three together are about all we have besides Cara Ellison and those that write for larger publications.

I'll be checking his stuff out for sure. It's not like a actively avoid kotaku, it's just that every time I visit, maybe once or twice a week, I'm overwhelmed by the deluge of shitty 40 word stories, video embeds and lists. Basically Buzzfeed levels of "content". I realize that editorial policy over there is shovel out as much shit as possible in a day, but it really does make finding anything actually worth reading very hard. Especially since the worst content always seems to generate the most comments and views, meaning it pushes everything worthwhile off the top stories feed almost immediately.

You do have to be on the same wifi network or near the PS4.

You can do it remotely via VPN. And depending on conditions it might even be viable for slower games.

I wouldn't recommend it but sure.

Don't even need VPN. Once it's done searching locally it searches over the internet and as long as you open the right ports on both ends it will let you connect. Still not very good for most games due to latency though.

@amafi: Is crossplay similar to how PS3 and Ps2 games like madden let you transfer saves? I saw the remote play stuff and it looked really cool. Do you ever use that stuff? If you do do you have to be on the same Wifi network to use it? I could see myself with my vita at school playing PS4 games on break very easily if that were the case.

Crossplay is basically just letting you move the save over from one and continuing the game on the other. Works well.

Remote play does work from outside of your personal network depending on filtering settings and such. You need to open PSN ports in your router, basically.

I can't play it from work because they've blocked the ports it needs, but I can connect if I share my phone's 4g connection and I can play some stuff.

It's not really worth it though in my opinion. The lack of R2/L2 and R3/L3 buttons means playing any game that uses those extensively is not going to be a great experience, and the network latency makes it so any very precise game will suffer. Most of the games I have on the PS4 that has a control scheme that fits well on the vita also has a native Vita crossbuy version. It's still a very neat feature, I just don't find myself using it much. But then my Vita is pretty much strictly a Binding of Isaac: Rebirth machine lately.

@asilentprotagonist: Haha. I fucking love Kamiya. He's the best.

@amafi: He's one of the best there is right now. Has broken quite a few big stories the last few years.

I'll have a look at his tag over there. Like I said before, I find wading through all the garbage looking for quality writing to be exhausting. Text book example of quantity over quality.

There really aren't enough exclusives right now to support it I don't think.

That said, I love mine even though I'm mainly playing smaller indie titles on it. Crossplay with the Vita really is a fantastic feature. Not to mention cross-buy, heh.

Appreciate the kind comments, and I'll definitely keep the skepticism in mind! Maybe I can help change your mind, maybe not. I'll be doing some streaming and other video and podcast-related stuff on the site, so if reading Kotaku isn't your bag, there'll be other options.

And to try and put this rumor mongering to rest, I left on my own. I'm on terrific terms with everyone at Giant Bomb, and we're all still close friends.

Hopefully Totilo and everyone will give you the time and budget to work on real stories and not just churn out the same kind of frankly awful slop that fills the front page of that site at any given time.

I'm sure there is the odd article that is actually researched and put some effort into, but with new stuff being posted every 30 minutes and the clickbait bullshit and top X lists crowding out everything else they sure make it hard to find. Hopefully your content doesn't completely drown in the sea of dreck.

Kotaku really is an awful site. 48 articles posted every fucking day, and maybe two per week are worth reading. Maybe Pat can up that average to like three. Hopefully he gets to do actual reporting and it doesn't turn into the same kind of content mill bullshit hackjobs literally every other person on the site has to produce daily.
