@e30bmw: You can't play Source... Well you can, but the version that exists today is a shadow of its former self. In 2010 the same clueless team (hidden path entertainment) that made csgo ruined it with a serious of patches that dramatically changed the way it played...and it still remains in that broken state today sadly. Also the main problems that exist in csgo that have been there right from the beginning have still not been fixed, much of the magic that was in both 1.6 and css just isnt there.....

Just watching the frag movies in my OP you can see how different the gameplay is.... notice in the csgo frag movies they have a shoutcaster having to hype every scene because the gameplay alone isnt all that impressive.... play some fast music and it doesnt fit the slowertempo of csgo, like it does in 1.6 and css movies. The skill ceiling is a lot lower in csgo, you can be a top player in just a few months if you bother to put the effort in, the difference between someone playing the former games years and months was enormous.. there just isnt anywhere near that much to master in csgo.

Also the reason why csgo has playerbase far higher than source ever did is not because its a better game (because it absolutely isnt) but instead because.

a) Steam userbase has grown IMMENSELY since the days CS source was in its prime.

b) Constant Free advertising/exposure on websites like twitch.

c) Valve have actually bothered to support the esports side of things offering big prize pools for tournements

d) Skins -_-

Yeah... you wont see a highlight reel of frags like that in csgo movies... so much faster, SO MUCH MORE SKILL BASED and a zillion times more entertaining/impressive to watch. But none of that matters right? Cuz csgo got dem skinz... CSGO is an absolutely fucking facepalm bad to anyone who has a long history with counterstrike. Sad times.

From a business sense FFT sells better than most other Tactical RPGs but worse than most other main FF series games; so they don't have a ton of reason to make one.

Except the budgets would be wildly different. It wouldn't take as much money to make a new proper FFT as it would to make another FF 13 dress up mode/sequel for all major consoles like they keep doing, and it wouldn't need to sell as many copies either. It could be a downloadable for consoles, PC, Apple products.

Yeah and to add to this I'm not really sure an AMAZING story is a necessity in games like this, while its nice to have that, the primary draw for me at least was always the amount of tactical depth the combat had and how customizable your party was with all the different job classes, weapons etc etc....

I cant really narrow it down to just one, especially this year as there is more I'm looking forward too than has been released in a single year for a long time...

If i had to narrow it down to just 10...

Dark Souls 2 - PC

Smash bros - Wii U

Mario Kart 8 - Wii U

Wasteland 2 - PC

Divinity Original sin - PC

Planetary Annihilation - PC

Pillars of Eternity - PC

Hotline Miami 2 - Vita

Starbound - Vita

The Witcher 3 - PC

I believe there may be one coming for IOS.... but why not 3DS or vita? There was a huge amount of love for the original... and with the success of games like Fire Emblem there is obviously still a huge market for tactical turn based JRPG's like that (which IMO play best on handhelds.) And since games like this don't tend to have gigantic development costs like other AAA games do you wouldn't need to sell bazillions to make a good profit... seems like an obvious thing to cash in on to me...
