Used to love them, but they've lost me since 3. I think Black Flag was very overrated (only fun for a bit, little depth, terrible missions and story). This new one just looks boring.
II is a game in particular I think very, very highly of.
The pornography I can see danger in, for sure. Felt it personally, to be honest. Not always healthy. However, don't see what it has to do with masculinity.
"When I'm in class, I'll wish I was playing World of Warcraft. When I'm with a girl, I'll wish I was watching pornography, because I'll never get rejected."
Personally I've gone through this kind of experiences. Although I never played World of Warcraft, or felt it about rejection. Personally I can relate.
This is part of what I'm talking about. Definitely not healthy. However, I don't see what it has to do with masculinity. It is mainly involving isolation, loneliness, depression, etc. That's where the danger is.
There has been a lot of talk about it recently and I do think there's value in that for some (hell, maybe many) but the masculinity angle is crap.
@artisanbreads: Yeah the games press has its fair share of ethics issues but magazines and web outlets that didn't do features and previews of games they will review would only have at best half s year's worth of new content unless they review about every single 3DS title that's released.
Yeah. Previews are changing but that feature was just some old fashioned big time preview coverage. Nothing new.
Any sort of ethical issue with games journalism isn't something I spend much time worrying about personally and I trust Van Ord. He's a good reviewer, especially with RPGs.
I'm surprised they did a review after that big fancy preview video series in which Danny went to the devs home turf to check it out. And to give it a 10/10 too, I imagine they're going to get some flak for that.
Magazines that did features on games before for previews never reviewed them either? or IGN or any number of sites that do the exact same thing Gamespot did here? Happens all the time.
Not saying people won't be outraged in some circles but they would be regardless. I don't spend time caring about that nonsense.
@artisanbreads: For what it's worth I believe that is the crystal curse spreading across her skin, not tatoos. Judging by the concept art of the main villain, the victim winds up looking like a stained glass window by the end. The title is likely a play on that!
"How did you land on the name Bloodstained? What does it say about the game?
The theme of blood often ties into Gothic roots, so it felt like a good keyword. The “stained-glass” magi-crystal graft made for a good play on words, and – much like a stain continues to grow and expand – the magi-crystal curse grows and slowly consumes its host. All this made Bloodstained a natural choice."
Ah I see. That's interesting at least. It looks lame in small parts in that picture to me, but in game could look cool so we will see.
