It's funny because I had this thought exercise in my head too, but mostly to remember what even came out this year and give it an inventory in my brain. We're not all the way through it but it's a fun vibe check. And fun to bs about the upcoming big games.

As of right now, the top 4 will be a fight between Hades, Tony Hawk, FF7 Remake, Animal Crossing. I don't remember who and how many were enthusiastic about Ori to guess where it will land so I'll guess Spelunky 2 for top 5 instead. Honestly I have no idea if Minecraft will Kool-Aid man it's way in but I would love to see it.

Unreleased games that could be disruptions to the list are Miles Morales, Baldur's Gate III early access, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and maybe Empire of Sin but it's cutting it close on its release date. I don't expect much out of Cyberpunk in any capacity so I doubt that thing makes it.

What kind of redundancy could they be addressing if they cut 9 and 12 year veterans of the company? Just shameful. The way we tolerate mass layoffs because it's an "acquisition" is a disgrace and further proof that labor is under the boot in this society. In fact, it's probably going to be one of the most important ways that capital disrupts any stability for modern workers. That and billionaires suing shit left and right to their whims.

Remember how many billions were spent in the original Viacom CBS merger, and the money spent here and yet well loved and respected people in the company get the door. What a sick joke.

People put years of their lives to build and rebuild these sites into something and then oops sorry, you were just an asset for our brand portfolio.

There's not a single thing I can think of that's "too sacred" to drop or criticize if I found out a principle person involved is mega shitty. What I really care about is how the people around reacted. We're encouraged to separate the art from the artist more because of alienation of labor more than anything. And that holding people to account for the shit they make stops the commerce from happening.

Everyone involved in that Harry Potter game wanted to keep their heads down and ignore the problem that's been there for years. No thanks. We should be loud about the artist sucking and never let it slide. Whether that pushes individuals to make the choice is sort of moot. Of course some people will draw the line and others won't. But it's crucial to pay attention to how they and others continue.

And again to remind people, the devs got paid this round regardless of how it does. They're not getting royalties or even guaranteed employment if the game does well.

Defector is proof that 1) the real ones can't be fooled and 2) eventually they'll figure something out even if they are royally screwed.

Unfortunately too many of their colleagues know exactly what can happen in the worse cases so they'll be ready to take the hit if it breaks bad.

I think it speaks volumes about how stodgy CBS has been as an owner that Jeff seems initially excited at changing ownership.

People need to remember that Giant Bomb is unique as far as revenue is concerned so it's a pretty self-contained thing that just needs good support. It's also super lean by most large website standards. The staff and budget for GB is small for the audience they have.

If I were other people at CNET, that's where my worry would be about layoffs.

I wonder if Red Venture came a knocking or CBS was looking to sell.

They should have retired this awful brand years ago.

All war games need way more holding to the wall about what they're glorifying and playing into nationalism but Tom Clancy anything is the lowest hanging fruit.

Every time I look at that front cover I go back to sleep. I'm genuinely surprised anyone is still looking forward to this thing.

Well, except the shitty nerds who are going to harass people over this game.
