The one thing that really confuses me about this Rey backlash is the weirdness about the light-saber battle. As many have said Kylo Ren is pretty badly injured first by Chewie then by Finn who gets in a decent swipe to his arm.

She spends almost the entire fight on the back foot and barely surviving and only really gains the upper-hand after taking Maz Kanatas advice (the whole close your eyes and let the light in nonsense), by which point Ren looks like he's about to pass out (dude is sweating like he was in a sauna whilst out in the snow).

At no point does she seem like some kind of light-saber wielding bad-ass and to me at least is not much better at it than Finn. I've seen it twice now and just can't see what other people are seeing with that fight.

Plus, Ren isn't a fully trained Jedi Master or Sith lord and we don't even know how much combat training he's actually had. Throughout the whole movie he's incredibly undisciplined and unpredictable. Not only that but Rey has shown throughout the movie that she is a capable melee fighter with her staff.

Exactly. I thought they did a particularly good job at setting the stage for an underdog yet still understandable victory by Rey. There are at LEAST 3 shots throughout the fights with Fin and Rey that are framed specifically to show "hey check out how much fucking blood Ren is losing here!"

As for the Phasma stuff, was she supposed to be more of a major character? I intentionally avoided as many of the pre-release trailers and teasers as I could, so I don't know if they were portraying her as a bigger deal than she ended up being in the movie. From the movie alone, I was kind of surprised she even HAD a name. Well, maybe not THAT surprised, given how much detailed backstory there is on that one Stormtrooper that said '"Look, sir, droids" that one time.

I know this was in the original picture, but I love how the Kerbal on the left (now Austin) is holding up a potato chip while he's wearing a sealed helmet.

It's a cute touch.

I'm almost afraid to see how much of my shit is gone after a few months away from the game. Not that it really matters at this point...

The films have always been formulaic, inasmuch as they are just retellings of a Hero's Journey, like the Legend of Zelda or whatever.

Exactly. An English teacher I had in high school used Star Wars as the primary example when explaining literary archetypes. Star Wars has always been space Gilgamesh.

My theory for a reveal in the next movie: Snoke is gonna be really small. Like, Yoda sized, maybe even tinier. His hologram is really big, but we don't have any scale. For all we know, his big throne could a chair in a cute little dollhouse!

Interesting that Deadly Premonition was originally going to be set in Canada, but "the company" made him change it to Seattle to please the American audience. Also that whisky bar looks amazing.

Yeah, I wonder if that's when the Twin Peaks part came into play.

@bbalpert: I am well aware of all of this but I just don't like the idea of going :

"Welp, people I don't like are going to be angry about this." I don't think it's a healthy attitude to have in general.

You're not wrong. I do need to be better about that. : )

@bbalpert: If you watched the trailer, you'd see that she shows more skin when doing Wicked Weave attacks (mostly legs and arms and not much else). I doubt anyone is going to seriously cry censorship over that. And why actually bring this up in the first place?

I brought it up mostly because of other recent cases of people crying wolf (or censorship) when companies make this sort of reasonable decision.

People being angry about Street Fighter V's camera angle adjustments

Conspiracy theories over DOA Xtreme 3's lack of US release

Fatal Frame costume kerfuffle

Xenoblade Chronicles X, Bravely Default, Senran Kagura Burst, etc.

I noticed that only her arms and legs are bared during the attacks and figured "that seems like the sort of innocuous changed detail that some people are gonna read way too much into." But I don't want to completely derail the thread, so...

That Knuckles costume was pretty cool/goofy looking!

How long before people start complaining about "censorship" or some nonsense over the fact that Bayonetta isn't completely (or almost completely) naked during her Wicked Weave attacks anymore?

Or was that already a change in Bayonetta 2? I never got around to playing that one.
