There are DEFINITELY some difficult fights that had me banging my head against until I finally got them.

So don't feel bad if you're having trouble (if that's what you're getting at).

BTW, are you having difficulty with any one boss in particular? If so, which one (in spoiler tags, I suppose)?

@wraithtek: Thanks for the heads up. I probably would have made that exact same mistake.

One thing I've noticed is that every so often I'll go back to Sanctuary and hear one of the settlers make some comment about having fought off raiders (like "Those raiders thought they could get one over on us, but we sure showed them!"). Are those lines just random bits of idle chatter or is it an indication that my settlement has been getting attacked. I'm PRETTY sure I haven't been getting any notifications about raider attacks. I mean, I have gotten those notifications at times in the past, but not anytime near when the settlers were bragging about defending Sanctuary.

Maybe there never WAS an attack and this line was just the game's semi-indirect way of telling the player "your defense level is high enough to keep ACTUAL invasions from triggering"?

Was it an attack that happened while you were in sanctuary, maybe? I've had a few attacks that were small enough that my settlers/turrets took care of them before I could get there to help. Or maybe a nearby attack (like on a caravan) a bit outside the settlement can trigger that dialog.

I do have heavy machine gun turrets all over the place, so I suppose a handful of raiders could have gotten mown down as they approached, while I was too focused on building something to notice. Maybe I should look into setting up some kind of alarm system.

Does equipping your settlers/provisioners with better armor/weapons/ammo make any difference?

I did have a provisioner die once, which cuts off your supply route, and wondering if equipping him better would have kept him alive. Or if he's just as likely to die with his default equipment.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I have read that unlike companions (who use up ammo in their inventory for any gun other than their default weapon), settlers only need a few bullets/charges/rockets/shells/etc. If they don't have ANY ammo in their inventory, they won't be able to use the weapon. But as long as they have enough for 1 shot* then they can fire that weapon indefinitely without ever running out.

*As far as I know, 1 "shot" is 1 attack in VATS. In other words, a settler only needs 1 bullet in their inventory to use non-automatic weapons that fire 1 round for every attack you make in VATS. But they would need a minimum of 6 bullets in their inventory to use an SMG that spits out 6 bullets for each attack in VATS.

*EDIT: As for whether the equipment actually makes a difference or not, I don't actually know*

It sounds like you're saying all the elements add up to a game that feels a bit... lifeless.
