The trouble with using "turn-based RPG" in place of JRPG is that there are RPGs that are turn-based that aren't at all JRPGs. Fallout is a turn-based RPG. Divinity Original Sin is a turn-based RPG. These games can't really be grouped with stuff like Final Fantasy VII. :P
How would you refer to non-tactical turn-based combat (such as the main FF games)?
Horror is a theme. Consider Lovely Planet and Wolfenstein: New Order - both are very different aesthetics wise, but they are both FPSs.
Basically, I think JRPG is a term that needs to be thrown out, just like "Doomclone".
Horror can still be a genre in games. It's pretty limiting to the medium to only define games by gameplay. You can define books and movies by story and style, no reason to exclude games from that. Resident Evil is survival horror and Dead Space is action horror. You define gameplay and style in both those terms. Definitely a "genre."
I didn't say that theme should be excluded when describing a game. Games can be defined by their genre AND theme.
JRPG is a horrible term. It feels like it makes more sense to just use the term 'turn-based RPG', since that's the gameplay, for the most part, that people are thinking of. At this point, there's absolutely no need to associate the gameplay with a specific country.
It's definitely more than just being a turn-based RPG. That is a common element, but it is not the sole defining factor.
What are the other factors? Keep in mind though, that in video games, theme and art style have nothing to do with genre classification.
Not true at all. Horror games are very much defined by their aesthetics and atmosphere.
Also, have you played many JRPGS? Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy XIII are absolutely JRPGS and neither of those games rely on a turn system.

Ha, I remember getting to that point and thinking I was getting close to the end...then it turns out there's still heaps of stuff left :| You're definitely not even half way.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the game and I'd say that it's definitely worth playing on. Also, I'll just mention that I spent 62 hours on the game (according to Steam). Take that with a grain of salt though, I'm usually pretty slow at playing through games and I have a tendency to want to do everything.
