So, do you not see the hypocrisy here? Just in case you've got short term memory loss, I'll provide a refresher: "Sequels usually do improve but are then undermined by the fact that we have already played the prequel. "  What happened to all that, smart guy? "
You know a squeal won GOTY for 2009 right? "
You know that I wasn't quoting myself, right? And that I've literally spent the entire thread arguing that a sequel CAN win GOTY, right? Yeah? KTHXBYE.

Galaxy 2 doesn't need to improve much since its foundation is so well built, although I assure you it will improve. "
If it "doesn't improve much" it won't get GOTY, I guarantee you that. Standards change over time and if it stays stagnant, it won't take top honors.

" @dcpc10: Wow. Why are you (and so many others) saying mass effect 2?  I know the game is good, but it is never above like 9.0 status.  Its never GotY material according to their other games and the first Mass Effect, so why is this one different? "
Regarding the bold: What do you mean it's "never above 9.0 status"? It hasn't even come out yet.

The underlined: You see, it's a sequel, which means it improves on it's predecessor and adds more to the overall successful formula, which sets it up to be a top quality game. Those who are predicting it to be a winner of GOTY are easily justified for their predictions because of these very reasons. "
Obviously I am talking about the first one.  Sequels usually do improve but are then undermined by the fact that we have already played the prequel. "
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune was a good game but had some issues, didn't win any GOTY awards. That didn't hamper Uncharted 2 this year. "
You have a good point, but Bioware tends to not do that.   Naughty Dog just threw a trick card, however, your point remains very valid; They can do the same. "
The bold: You have got to be kidding me. Baldur's gate? Baldur's Gate II? Bioware can most definitely make impressive sequels to their games. They just  haven't focused on one series for an extended period of time recently, but it seems they're going to devote a lot of effort into the Mass Effect series. Quite frankly, Mass Effect 2 is shaping up to be a brilliant game and should have a place in GOTY discussions a year from now.

I really regret not getting it. I had a chance the other day but I went with Fable 2 instead. "
Fable 2... talk about bad endings.  Still a very good game but man. "
So I've heard, but it's been on my "list of games to catch up on" for a while now. I figured it wouldn't hurt to spend the 20 bucks on it.

" Batman: Arkham Asylum was fucking awesome.  It had great atmosphere, some of the best "Oh, shit" moments of gaming (period.), and a easy-to-learn-difficult-to-master combat system (which also feel insanely visceral and bone-crackingly satisfying).  The graphics are beautiful and the art style is pretty good.  Assassin's Creed 2 was a great game, but get Batman first.  The only things that I can put up in favor of Assassin's Creed 2 over Batman is length. "
Assassin's Creed 2 probably hadthe  "Oh, shit" moment of 2009. Plus, the graphics and art style in AC2 are also a pleasure to look at, and arguably better looking than Batman: Arkham Asylum. The only thing that AC2 doesn't do as well as Batman: AA is the combat, but it's still very satisfying. "
I respectfully but vehemently disagree, especially on the "Oh shit" moment.  Sure, the end of Assassin's Creed 2 was out there, but they aren't even in the same ballpark as the Scarecow sequences of Arkham Asylum. "
Ah yes, the scarecrow sequences were pretty good, but the ending in AC2 tops those in terms of reaction from me. I mean, I'd love to elaborate but I wouldn't want to spoil the game for the TC or anyone else reading this thread.

An hour of Fable 2. Unfortunately, the past few days have been way too hectic for me to sit down and get a good session of gaming in.

Assassin's Creed 2 was the last game I finished as well, and man that ending blew my mind.
