As I start thinking about the Persona 4 anime that's coming soon, I reminisce back on all the anime related purchases I've made and how fucking expensive japanese shit is compared to it's western equivalent. Do I regret any purchase I've made? Fuck no. (Except for buying 4 copies of Catherine, that was crazy.) But I'm getting off my point.

When the Persona 4 anime comes out on Blu-ray, I'm going to buy it, it's going to be priced at around $70, and there are going to be at least 9 volumes. I'm going buy each volume for all the stupid extra shit Aniplex is going to pack into it (Drama CDs, Concept Art, and a Nanako/Adachi hug pillow).

I'm buying Infinite Stratos (Pictured Above) mostly for Moe ~ Moe ~ "Hitler-tan"

Anime DVDs/BluRays are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over priced in Japan. Sadly Otaku will pay that price. :/

There are many sites on the internet that will allow you to stream pretty much any anime you want to watch, and it's usually decent quality. For free.

I actually spend more than that on anime, but I spread out the purchases throughout the year. That way, I won't feel like I'm throwing my hard-earned moneys away.

Samfo said what i was going to. I love anime, but the shit is expensive. Especially blue-ray, since i have a ps3 i have to buy the best. No excuse :( I think the only anime I have ever bought was the Love Hina Collection of episodes and the collectors edition of love hina movies when i was like 14. still own them but still think 50$ for each box set was alot..

If you really want to pay for anime, why not use Crunchyroll? I don't know about their selection though, so that may a potential issue.

US/UK tv shows, J-drama and anime are the only things I download these days. And I guess reading manga from an online reader is pirating as well.

Buying tv shows on DVD/Bluray is ridiculous to me since they cost so much - I don't even want to think what a 100 episode anime would cost on DVD... And I don't want to play around with discs, so I'd just end up ripping all the stuff I bought anyway.

If Hulu or something similar worked here, I'd be using that a lot - though they tend to screw things by offering only dubs. The utopian future for me would be a service from which you can rent/buy episodes of TV shows from around the world. Maybe include an option to add your own softsubs, so that fansubbing would remain relevant - no service could offer subs for everything on their own anyway.

Yeah but...that's like 4 episodes or something? Which adds up to less than 2 hours of entertainment...

My initial reaction was: 'What?! You're buying Infinite Stratos?'

But then that second picture almost made me regret dropping that series about 4 eps in.

What I mean to say is that you're less than a person.

I wish I had the money, is all I have to say... Cause then I'd buy all sorts of anime as well, definitely starting with Gankutsuou and Monster ^^

I really enjoyed Infinite Stratos (and im really looking forward to the OVA) but I find it hard to describe it as "good", but its defintely really enjoyable as long as you dont question the "harem" aspect (which Ive always disliked as a concept). I would say its more "light fluff" kind of thing, really enjoyable.

This, been watching anime for well over 10 years now and the only animes I own are Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo and thats just because I had to have the box set on my shelf! Other than that there are plenty of sites to stream and download from.

Crunchyroll has shit for selection and so much of their stuff is region specific

funnily enough, I've only ever pirated stuff, the first anime/manga thing I've actually bought was just this week, as i wanted to get the proper english translation of the first wandering son book (gonna take FOREVER for the rest of it to get out) but yeah that was only 13 dollars

Wow, that is A LOT of monies to be spending on anime stuff. I've never really been interested in anime, and I've never spent any money on it (Never pirated either). Well, just think how much you'll get if you sell it in a few years! :}

Even for animes I like, which are few and far between, I am not willing to pay this. Perhaps if the art really were 'art' - like, Disney quality - or even Miyazaki quality, I could begin to understand. But I probably still wouldn't pay it.

I find it hard to bring myself to buy a normal season for $70 (and still haven't). I bought Solty Rei for, like $30 or something a month back. That was a whole season... for $30. $70 for 4 episodes seems like crazy talk to me.

Uh good afvice there man... Crunchyroll even has the current aniplex anime from the last two seasons "Blue Excorcist" and a few of their stock series so it isn't like they don't have a working relationship with the people who will make the persona 4 anime. That and a year of subbing costs like the equal of 1 of those blu rays you are buying....

I have 3 copies of Catherine... PS3 Japanese. PS3 English. 360 English...

I'd call this crazy but I just spent over 300 dollars on three dress shirts and a pair of pants, so I think I've forfeited my position to judge.
