Calling Out Alistair (mild spoilers)

Dude, bro!

I did what needed to be done; there was no other choice than for Lady Isolde to sacrifice herself for her son. Would you have preferred if I killed the child?

I was left with only two options, kill Isolde-kill the demon, or kill the child-kill the demon. Running out to the Circle of Magi was out of the question, it would have been three days ride to the tower and by that time, the demon could have over run the town.

Even you alluded that it may have been a fruitless endeavor to ask the Magi for their assistance. Action had to be taken, and I was not about to run out on a quest for assistance when we were clearly more than capable enough to fight this demon on our own.

Lady Isolde sacrificed her life to save her son, and the Arl would have done the same. I admit, I know little of this Blood Magic, but desperate times calls for desperate measures. And in this case they were screaming for it!

My primary concern was the safety of the town and the child. I would not have slain him, and I would not leave the town without our aid to journey to the Tower of the Magi. This discussion is closed. I made my decision and I stand by it.

.............................

Side note: Calling out Bioware

Damn it Bioware, I should be able to talk to Morrigan and Leliana about what just happened!

That's cold, letting the mother die. Go dig that blood mage up out of his prison cell, make him do the ritual, and sweet-talk morrigan into dancing into the fade.

Actually, nothing happens if you go out to the Circle of Magi. I managed to save Connor and Isolde. Everybody wins.

Yeah, my first go-round I went to redcliff first, then the mage tower. Trying it in reverse order this time to see what happens.

My first time through I did the same thing for the same reasons. However, I discovered on my second play through that nothing happens if you go to the tower of magi, which to me means that you are supposed to go to the tower, which makes no sense.

I'm not positive, but I think it might be possible to finish the mage tower w/out their support. I think my original character hasn't gone their yet, I'll have to try it and see.

I killed the kid because I let the blood mage go earlier. I could risk Connor taking out the whole damn village. GET OFF MY BACK ALISTAIR!! You think I enjoyed killing the damn kid!?!?!

Well I'm on my second playthrough now and this time I decided to go the the circle....ugh but I hate doing the circle quest, the void is definitely my least favorite place in the game.

It's one of those things you (I at least) really only enjoyed doing the first time, doing it over and over again in subsequent playthroughs is kind of a pain but Bioware thought ahead and that's why all the stat boosts are in there haha.

I think what really makes me dislike Alistair is that if you do one action you'll lose approval, but you don't gain it for doing what he wants you to do.

I give the Bioware writers credit. They created a realistic, whiny, unlikable bitch, who doesn't want to BE in charge, he'd rather just criticize everything the new guy he PUT in charge does.

I went and got the mages, sent Irving into the Fade (he is a total badass by the way), then had the blood mage executed.

Alistair whines his way through the whole game, you should get used to it.  I strung him along and then boned Zev.  Burn.

I agree, he came up on me like "OH GOD WHY!!!"  It was stupid that you lost that much reputation with him for that.

I don't know about you guys, but Morrigan disapproves of everything rational I'm doing. I want to get into Redcliffe, and she acts like helping the village is the most foolish way of doing so, because apparently helping the village and getting some help in breaking into the castle is the idiotic way of doing things.

I mean sure, she doesn't know Bann Teagan has a secret way inside, but we surely don't know how to get inside. Storming through an army of whatever I'd be facing doesn't sound like the best option to take. And apparently making a promise to a man just so he can strengthen your allies is also the idiotic way of doing things.

Listen-- Alistair and I just had sex, so I kind of feel like I need to speak up for him.  However, the gifts and compliments I gave him... that was all just pillow talk, baby.

I let Isolde take one and just persuaded Allistair after. All you lose is a couple points of favor, which can be made up for later by bribing him with presents.

Now I'm off to figure out how to finish without anyone dying. I ended up going to the tower, first, but since they annulled the crap out of the mages, there were no mages left to help. Oh, and if you kill Jowan, you suck. Try playing through the mage origin path and you might feel sympathy for him.

Yeah, Morrigan is a little stupid, not realizing that you're only helping these people so that they'll help you build an army, and that if everyone in the village is dead, you really have no army to conscript. Her neutral stance is annoying as crap. Same with Sten. I had to placate to their demands and bribe them with numerous gifts early on.

@Jimbo:   Wow really?  I didn't even know having Irving go in the fade for you was an option.  Did you have to do anything special to get this or did I just miss the obvious dialog choice?

I saw this too, I got the Circle of Magi's help and one of the options were to sent Irving in.But  I just sent Morringan in and did it. Also do you control Irving or do you just see him go into the fade and them come out moments later?

You have to go help the mages then tell him you need their help at Redcliffe (obviously), but I think there might also have been a Persuade check on it too, you say something like "You owe me for saving your ass, Irving".  He's a pretty cool character and was about 5-6 levels higher than my party at the time.

I like Allistair as a friend though, he's emotionally unstable, incapable of leadership, and morally just.

You're supposed to take care of him not every character in the game can be Barrett from Final Fantasy 7.

When Alistair calls you out on killing the kid/mother in the camp afterwards, I noticed the second time that there was a [Cunning] dialog choice which reduced the amount of favour you lose with him by about half.  Thought that was pretty sweet, but it did annoy me that when talking him down there was no "you'd rather that the town suffer for another few days while we travel to and from the mage tower?" option - it seems kind of cheap that nothing happens to the town if you wander off to get the mages' help.

I ventured into the Fade myself, but only because it got me Blood Magic.
Also, yeah, I used the persuade option on him. Still got -23 approval, though. I'd like to think that's what lead to me betraying him at the end.
