Insomniac dropped the MSRP of Feral Rites to $29.99 and also included in the Store Sale so it's only $9.99 right now.

The people who bought it at $50 will get the following games for free.

  • AirMech Command
  • Damaged Core
  • Defense Grid VR
  • Chronos
  • Edge of Nowhere
  • The Climb

That is a crazy deal. I guess it really wasn't selling all that well. I would have been happy to see it priced at $30.

I agree with Jeff on VR about the current limitations.

While roomscale is really cool I have found myself preferring 3rd person or seated VR games because i find it really immerses me in the world without having the current limitations of the hardware.

Got to try this game at Best Buy. It's really cool, I really hope they release it on other VR platforms.

Kessler is hilarious. This made me want to go find out what other content he is in.

@amafi: EoN is actually pretty great, but it is largely due to showing the potential of VR within 3rd person games. While playing it I kept thinking how awesome an Uncharted would be in VR, the world just encapsulates you.

I was really impressed by the opening scene when it places you in the airplane with the guy because the animation of the other character seemed really neat.

Walking backwards was the one thing I noticed while playing through. Like I felt I got trapped into a situation and you can't really backtrack because you are walking towards the camera. I noticed the light thing, but I understand why they did that.

Hearing Jeff talk about the i5 2500k with a 980 issue concerned me because I am practically running the exact same system.

I asked for someone else on r/oculus to confirm this, but someone responded saying they are running an i5 2500 with no OC and games are running fine.

Not true. I have i5-2500k (not overclocked) and it works wonderfuly well with >everything I tried. Eve Valkyrie run great, Elite runs perfect. 2500 are still decent CPUs. No need to scare people :)

So if anyone else is in a similar position, don't get discouraged yet...although this would force me to upgrade so I wouldn't feel as bad spending the money. :)

The lighthouse boxes are just dumb boxes that shoot out lasers and the photodiodes on the headset/controllers calculate the position. That is why all they require is power and don't need to be hooked to the PC.

Oculus is using camera(s) to track the position and that's why they require the use of USB 3.0.

1 for the headset

1 for the camera

1 for additional camera for touch when released.

usb 2.0 is for the Xbox Controller.

While I really want motion controllers, it sort of is a good idea not to include it because it keeps the price down for people who simply want a headset for driving/flight simulators.

@neozeon: I am not even that defensive, but I have just seen the 3DTV and Virtual Boy line mentioned everywhere and even though you didn't say it directly its creates a comparisons to it and attempts to diminish the product.

Also this whole mainstream thing is basically only ever talked about by people who don't think this generation will be a mainstream device. Although most people who are pro VR already know this...I don't think anyone expects Oculus or Vive to be a hot mainstream success.

I think GearVR, VR with SoC, and potentially PSVR have the best chance of being the mainstream VR, but even that isn't in the short term.

@neozeon: What do you mean proof of concept? VR works and is a pretty compelling experience. Seems obvious that you haven't tried it since you are talking about Virtual Boy and 3DTV when it is absolutely nothing like those.

My PC is about 5 years old and is probably good enough to run it. I will probably upgrade my graphics card because VR is really the first thing that has really given me a reason to even bother upgrading since I put the build together.

Oculus and hopefully HTC seem to have reasonable expectations of sales with this tech and know it's targeting a niche audience. PSVR and even GearVR is much more targeted towards mainstream audience and as devices get lighter, smaller, and cheaper it will reach a wider audience.

Pretty surprised with the price. I was hoping for around this price, but was starting to worry it would be more expensive. I was sort of hoping it would be more expensive so I wouldn't be tempted to buy it, but I think I am going to have to.
