Pretty cool Periscope interview with Palmer while he was basically running to get a ride to the airport. Talks about preorder issues, reasons for pricing and their goals.
The Oculus Rift system checker is basically just checking to see if you at least hit the specs they listed on their site, so it really isn't the best method. Palmer said if you run a 3dMark test and your computer gets over 9000 you should be good. I am running an i5 2500k with 2 670s and I managed to get a 9400. I am going to give it a shot before upgrading. Palmer also mentioned those specs are for running at a high quality (but not max setting) so maybe you could adjust graphical settings lower for the sake of frame rate.
I am also running into a USB 3.0 issue, but you actually may be able to use a hub. The USB 3.0 are for Headset, camera, and another camera for Oculus touch. USB 2.0 is for the Xbox controller.
Now I am more worried about the Vive price because I don't see how the Vive is going to be cheaper. I was expecting OR to $400-500 and Vive to be $600-700.
