I am a high school English teacher.

First off, before anyone tries to scold me about it - all my grading for the term is completed and my students are taking a quiz. See? Now you have a top secret look into what your teachers do while you take quizzes in class!

Being a member of a video game community like the one here on Giant Bomb always makes me wonder about the demographic of its posters. I know a lot of people tend to be college students, but I am still curious to see what careers/jobs other people have - and to answer questions about mine. I had a great discussion over on the Screened forums about planning for the film studies course I am teaching next year, and love talking about my job. So if you have questions or want to tell me about your job, do it!

Keep me entertained, people!

I am a professional writer/comedian and a designer/editor for a variety of websites. I wear a lot of hats on my day-to-day, so usually when people ask what I do, I just say "business things."

i'm a truck driver who works for an organic foods distributor in the pacific northwest. i did the long haul trucking thing for nearly 6 years before making the move from a city within maricopa county, arizona to where i am today. in those quick 6 years, i got to see most of the states in the US as well as a good chunk of canadian provinces. the only state i have yet to visit is hawaii. that is something many people can only dream about doing.

@Korolev: I am a science student and i was in the ER when a neurologist from my school came in talked. I (still doing my bachelors and having no idea what i want to do) found my self kind of feeling regret that I wont become one. Being a doctor is an achievement, u are respected and important. U help people. As for Science not being very stable, i figured that out too, and so i intend to start over in the computer sciences. Considering i specialized in Genomics, its a nice area of science to couple with a computer science degree, which is already full of opportunity. THIS is the only thing keeping me positive and pushing forward to finish my bachelor (since im almost done anyway).

I think you made the right decision.

Second Year of my Arts Degree studying Classical Civilisation as a Major with Celtic Studies as a Minor. Despite this I've dabbled in Psychology, Economics, Zoology, Computer Programming, Philosophy, Political Studies, History and English Literature. I've done a lot but I'm not exactly great at one thing. I do know a lot of useless trivia though.

@Sweep said:

I'm a hamburger. I want to be inside you.

You seem... convinced of that, however I have yet to see a "hamburger" with the ability to type or take part in a L4D2 TNT. If you would be inclined to show me evidence I would be intrigued to carry out further investigations, otherwise I would like to impose Psychotherapy.

@Sweep: I don't... that's... forgive my obviously misguided views of the intellectual beings such as yourself. I feel though I have learned too much even from such little provided data, continue on your way, much advantaged Hamburger. I also feel the highlighted wiki, should reflect recent events so that such ignorance from others like myself doesn't happen again.

Don't let Sweep fool you. His name is inspired by his career as a custodian. I met the guy in real life, though, and he really does look like a greasy hamburger.

So, BoG. I'm a student at the University of Utah, and I'll begin my junior year this fall. I'm triple majoring in political science, Spanish, and international studies. I have three majors not because I know what I want to do in life, but because I've come to the conclusion that being ambitious will result in people seeking to hire me, even though that ambition is totally confused. I would love to work internationally in the future, though I don't know how plausible that is. Currently, I'm employed at a computer re-seller. I just take stock of computer parts. I enjoy Spanish poetry, and long walks on the beach. I'm seeking a woman who.... wait, sorry, I got carried away.

I'm a ninja. In my spare time I'm a Systems Administrator for a real estate company.

It's easy because as a full time ninja, most of my real work is done at night. Changing passwords and setting up user accounts is work best done during the day.

I'm actually a freshman high school student! I love writing, so English class should be my favorite thing, right? Not exactly. My suffering in that class is due to both my teacher's insistence on stopping at every period in Romeo and Juliet to translate, and my peers insisting on not learning anything in the class and slacking off, even though they are the "top tier" in our grade.

Looking forward to Journalism next year, though!

@CyborgDuo: That's why I use the parallel text with my freshman classes - we read the Elizabethan English, but they have the translation for answering questions.

- Bachelor of Arts in English, Emphasis in British Literature

- Half of a Masters of Science in Secondary English Education (just half of the Master degree because my third 'student teaching' semester was horrible)...who wants a PhD in education anyway!

- Masters of Science in Library and Information Science, Emphasis in Information Systems & Reference

I work as a head reference librarian, for which I am well paid. The hours are better than a for teacher, I can tell people to shut their traps ("Be quiet!"), and unlike a teacher, cop, or social worker I don't (by law) have to report anything about anyone to anyone - I'm not in loco parentis.

Just found this thread : Education on your side of the pond (I am an English High School teacher in a British HIgh School) seems both more liberating in terms of choice and approach and also more rigourous and advanced in terms of theory and concepts. High School teaching over here is highly prescribed and results focused, with a huge emphasis on progress via assessment data, schools being garaded via league tables and the dreaded visit of inspectors. An approach that is I and many of my colleagues believe, is detrimental to the actual experience and learning of the students. What you have described in your posts has been almost the complete opposite of my highly pressured and unsatisfyng experience of high school teaching over here in the UK. I am seriously considering leaving the profession; to do what I don't know, but your descriptions give me hope that teaching is'nt like this everywhere. I have some hope...

@Brewmaster_Andy: I'm actually still in high school, although I'm hoping to finish it by next year (that is a must, of course), and I'm doing pretty well with that :P. I will then try to enter psychology in some EU country when Croatia enters, probably in Ireland (because i just looove everything Irish :), and because i have some family there who can pay for food and shelter). You can actually help me-considering i will have to use English as my first language-is my English any good? (I have no idea why it went to bold, don't ask me)

@Winternet:Oh, so you're working for ?

Oddly enough, he is. That's all I can say at the moment, though. Any more would risk his termination.
