your list doesn't really have "solos" the way i think of them. all those songs you listed had pre written and recorded solos, stevie ray vaughn simply improvised that entire thing on the spot. if any of the dudes you listed tried that, most would totally fail, and i saw van halen last summer, i know for sure he can't do anything but the shit he already wrote, eg. eruptiondamswedon said:

...and then lose all that respect for having "Stairway to Heaven" on that list...

Seriously, there are infinitely better Zep solos than "Stairway".  People need to get over that stupid ass song.  I mean, you are talking about the same album that had the amazingness of "Black Dog" on it!!!

Plus, I would have no Hendrix or Slash on my list.  Slash is a mediocre guitarist (he's even said it himself), and Hendrix was decent.  Basically just playing nothing but blues scales in a sloppy manner left-handed.

I would replace the Hendrix solo with "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath, and then replace Slash with "Little Red Corvette" by Prince.

EDIT:  DAMMIT!  No one has the good quality version of Michaelangelo Batio's Double Guitar Tribute video!!!  GRR!!!

Therefore, I must place Rusty Cooley in here instead.  = D

While you are correct in terms of technicality, you are not correct in terms of how memorable the "War Pigs" solo is.  For shame.  Tsk tsk, sir.

good list, page is my leader. however i think i would have some micheal angelo batio, and zakk wylde in my list even some iron maiden or Buckethead

Well depending on if we are talking best overall guitarist, tecehnically, or shredder.

My favorite guitarist is STEVE VAI. He is amazing and he can shred.

As for shredding...probably Batio or Yngve Malmsteen

@CL60: even though the Stairways to Heaven solo is the most recognizable solo of them all I think that the solos in Since I've Been Lovin' You are better.
