Muse - The Resistance

just got the album, it's kinda short but it's full of fucking win, their best album so far imo, the Exogenesis Symphony blows my mind, some great riffs in the whole album with fantastic lyrics, I completely recommend it.

I thoroughly disagree. No offense; I just didn't like this one nearly as much as the other albums.

Exogenesis symphony is incredible. There are a few questionable songs in it, but I think they are growing on me. But overall really good.

It is a nice album, though for now i've only downloaded two songs. MK Ultra and Uprising

I have the album too and I don't quite know how I feel about it. I love a couple of the songs but others are kinda slow it seems. I'll have to listen to it some more.

I liked it, but I felt it really doesn't compare to their other albums.

>> Esogenesis: Symphony, Pt. 1: Overture
>> Esogenesis
>> Eso

This is the ID3 information that it got straight from the disc. It fixed itself after I forced an update of ID3 info, but it still amused me to no end.

What did I think of The Resistance

Meh.

The Resistance is a continuation of the direction that Muse started to head in with 2006's Black Holes and Revelations. The songs aren't necessarily bad, but they are a far cry from the guitar driven prog rock glory days of OoS and Absolution. Not bad, just different. Unfortunately, I got into Muse not for Time Is Running Out and Supermassive Black Hole, but for Stockholm Syndrome, Shrinking Universe, New Born and Plug In Baby. There is no New Born on this album. There is no Stockholm Syndrome. The only salvageable tracks on the album are Uprising (not really my thing but it's ok), Unnatural Selection, MKUltra and (to an extent) Exogenesis. Of these, the only track I would consider good would be Unnatural Selection. It's not one of their best, but it's at least pretty good.

I really, really disapprove of the direction Muse is taking. No doubt they will find new fans where they are going, but it feels like us old timers are getting left out in the cold. I can't believe I would ever see Muse produce a song as crappy as Undisclosed Desires or Guiding Light. They are horrible, horrible tracks. The dropoff in quality isn't as bad as when Radiohead followed up OK Computer with Kid A, but it's no less disappointing for me.

Please, Muse, throw us a bone. At least release some B-sides that are like what you used to do, PLEASE.

Meh. The instrumentation really isn't that good, and too many of their songs just scream too much of Queen.

Only USoE is really Queen like, but it's very much so. It's kind of like Queen meets Queen with some Queen overtones thrown in for good measure. But then again, it's also a bit like Queen, too.

Exogenesis Symphony part 1 is a blatant rip-off of a section of Philip Glass' Pruitt Igoe, from the film Koyaanisqatsi.

I really like Undisclosed Desires, and the rest of the album is catchy. I guess I was just a bit bored of the old Muse, excellent though they were, this is more, and slightly better imo.

Its great. sounds heavenly like any muse masterpiece, but t he lack of the element of rock is the only problem.. soft muse is charming, but that album is too soft

I love Muse and bought the album BUT 10 minutes after purchasing the album I read a post stating that Matt Belamy (the lead singer) is against file sharing and wants isps to start charging for bandwidth. I was so pissed off. He said that there is a big difference between people who just check e-mails and people who are file-sharing. Apparently the dick doesn't know that other types of people exist, like games downloading patches and so on and so forth. I am so pissed at him right now and myself since I bought the iTunes LP. Oh and he agreed with Lily Allen (a never was) with the fact that the internet kills the chances for upcoming artists. WTF MAN! WTF!!!!!

It's a good album but I still think that Origin of Symmetry is their best album to date.

Then hop on the bands myspace and let him know what kind of people we are!
Thats kind of a dick move on his behalf, but I'm sure he didn't mean to piss us legit people off.

I've been a fan since 1999 when I first heard plug in baby. Their first two albums where trying to be very Radiohead, despite some absolutely amazing songs on there. Absolution is an amazing album because of its consistent themes. Black Holes and Revelations was an attempt at evolving the sound and the Resistance seems to be the result of a fully form sound, it just pips Absolution for me.

I think the album is amazing (minus Undisclosed Desires). But "The Resistance" is definitely not their best work.

I find it very bland. Admittedly, I felt the same about Black Holes and Revelations, until recently when I really listened to a few tracks (most importantly Take A Bow...that track is made of fucking win). Maybe I just need to listen to it a few more times.

I loved the early Muse albums, Showbiz and Origin of Symmetry, but the newer stuff just keep getting worst... i haven't listened to this new album, but reading the responses and reviews i'll probably will like this even less.

Plug in Baby did not exist in 1999. First live performance was in 2000, it was released in 2001.

@adam_grif: You are absolutely correct, was trying to think back to when I got my first stereo and a virgin radio compilation album with the song on it, wasn't really thinking when I typed, 2 years off, was 2001 when I discovered Muse!

Why are you so angry? Artists lose a lot of money due to file sharing.

While I don't think The Resistance is Muse's best work, it's still Muse, which in my mind puts it a notch above a lot of the stuff coming out today. I think it starts out pretty good, but loses me in the middle, which is a bit of a shame. Muse was one of the only bands who I could slap a CD on and listen to it all the way through without wanting to skip ahead. Sadly, The Resistance doesn't have that appeal.

You are opening up a can of worms by asking this kind of question. File sharing is a huge promotional tool, especially for relatively obscure artists who people would never in a thousand years consider purchasing, and don't get any radio time (so they can't hear them with that method).

Studies show that those who pirate the most music are also the same group of people who purchase the most music.

Just listened to a few quick tracks of it on Rhapsody.  I just didn't like it.  I went back to listen to the older stuff as well.  I don't like the vocals for some reason.  Seems kind of whiny.

@SuperSambo:   But they also make a lot of money from the internet. Not everyone files share and realistically artists make their money from concerts not record sales. The record companies keep a lot of the money. why do you think half of them are broke. 50 cent doesn't really own those ferraris. The record company is screwing them over not the fans and if you want your internet capped that's fine by me but do you really want Giant Bomb to pay out the ass for their awesome content therefor making us pay out the ass. I think NOT!

I already pay for capped internet. If I go beyond 50GB per month I get slowed to dialup speeds.
