@RagingLion:  Hmm ... well, I figured for $5 it was worth a shot, and it seems that even people who're frustrated with the difficulty still recommended it. Haven't actually played it yet, will probably try it out tonight.

@Lethkhar:  Yeah, I feel the same. Will give it a go without the patch at first ... and will save often ;)

@RagingLion:   This caught my attention too ... however, I feel like I've had a bad run with obnoxiously difficult games recently, so I might give this a pass. Still, at only $5...

I wish I knew what kind of difficulty it is. Have you tried it out yet?

I can handle Devil May Cry 3 style difficulty. What I can't handle is having to replay segments over and over again because the developer has been extremely vague about your objective and you have to figure it out using trial and error (and error and error and error).

They spent way too much time trying to make this game sound good, instead of actually making it good. Could have been cool, with gratuitous stuffing flying about, dismemberment, and interesting stealth-kills.

Instead it looks like a 5 year-old game trying desperately to be relevant by ripping off pop-culture.

I got a free account. But after checking it out for a bit, I kind of doubt I'll bother signing back in anytime soon.

Honestly, I don't really see the point of it. I mean, I guess it could potentially be good if you've got crappy hardware and/or are a Mac user. Seems like a fairly small demographic they're shooting for though.

I played the demo for Heavy Rain back when it first hit the PSN. I was intrigued.  After reading the reviews I've been considering picking it up. However...

I knew Quantic Dream had made Indigo Prophecy a few years back, and knew it had generally favorable reviews, so a few weeks back when I saw it on Steam for $3, I picked it up. After playing through it, all I can say is that I absolutely hated it.  Seriously. Like, "I want to mail David Cage a box of dog turds" kind of hatred.

Anyway, I would like to hear from people who've played both Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain, how similar are they, as far as gameplay goes?

@MightyMayorMike:  If you wouldn't mind my $0.02, I'd say Arcanum is absolutely worth picking up (if you haven't done so already). At $6 on GOG it's a steal. The community has also done an amazing job patching it up. Check here for unofficial patches and extras (high res patch, high res maps, etc...) that essentially fix the entire game:  http://terra-arcanum.com/downloads/

I've been playing through on Win7 x64 and it's been running like a charm.

I picked up the GoW Collection for PS3 a couple months ago, but haven't really gotten too far into it. I have been replaying a lot of older games though, and honestly, I think standards were just way lower back then (and even lower in the 90s and 80s) because we didn't have as much to compare it to. In replaying some games I've thought, "Wow, this is terrible. Why did I like this?" And usually the answer is because it was the only thing like it at the time. It's a lot harder to tolerate now.

I did, however, just finish Dead Space the other night, and loved it. I was playing on a PC though, so the asteroid sequence didn't give me much trouble as it probably would have on a console. The first time I tried it (and died) I didn't reaize that you can just hold the fire button down and, as long as you let up for a second every once in a while, it won't overheat. I definitely didn't get as annoyed with it as some games where it seems like the developer is intentionally punishing you for playing their game. As far as I can remember that's the only sequence like that. I'd say it's definitely worth finishing if you feel like giving it another shot.

I've been doing the same thing, mainly playing through older adventure games and RPGs.

I played a bit of Eternal Darkness, back when it came out. Not enough to really make a judgment call though.

I did pick up a copy of Indigo Prophecy when it was on sale for $3 on Steam. Honestly, I hated it. I have no idea what people enjoy about that game. I felt like I was doing the developer's chore-list, and as I reward I got to play endless games of Simon.

I'm actually surprised they didn't start doing this a lot earlier. So long as they "remake" acclaimed titles it's essentially a guaranteed market.

However, why they don't seem terribly interested in releasing them on the PSN and cutting production costs is a mystery to me.
