Yep, I saw it coming too, but there wasn't anything I could do to avoid it.
The guy in front of me had slammed on his breaks, and I was able to stop just in time before hitting him. The woman behind me stopped in time also, but then the guy behind her slammed into her car, she slammed into my car, and my car slammed into the car in front of me. The guy at the end of the line must've really been barreling.
My car was totalled, but thankfully the guy's (who started the chain-reaction) insurance paid for everything. Originally, the insurance company tried to give me half of what my car was worth, but after some arguing I was able to get reimbursed for a fair amount.
I thought it started out a little slow, but picked up fairly quickly, and I ended up really enjoying it quite a lot after getting to know the characters a bit.
It was also nice to be able to bring my ME character into ME2, and have the game remember and reference decisions that were made. If you're planning on playing ME2, it's worth sticking with it to understand the story. Personally, I think ME2 is easily one of the best games of the year, so far.
I bought quite a few games over the course of the sale as well. Half of them I haven't had the chance to try yet.
My biggest disappointments would definitely be Indigo Prophecy and Zeno Clash. Indigo Prophesy annoyed me with it's illusion of choice, when you're really forced to do exactly what the developer wants you to, and in the order the developer wants you to do it. The story also went completely off its rails about halfway through, making me pretty apathetic about finding out what was going to happen. Zeno Clash was disappointing because of awkward, clumsy controls, difficulty that ramped-up way too quickly, and a nonsense story. I know people have raved about both games, but I honestly didn't enjoy them at all.
I bought Dead Space and Mirror's Edge and enjoyed both of those quite a bit (although I think they were the week before the Summer Sale).
I picked up The Void as well ... I'm on my 4th or 5th restart. I think I'm finally getting the hang of it. It's definitely difficult, and not a game that's really possible to wrap your head around during the first (second, or even third) attempt. Here's a PDF guide that is extremely useful (unless you prefer restarting over and over -- I've heard that's "part of the experience," but after a while that gets tiring): http://faqs.ign.com/articles/105/1057960p1.html The "donor glyph" is a bit of a pain to draw. Basically, you have to make the tails long, and the loop kind of small (ignore the example video -- the tails also need to start higher and end lower than the loop (if that makes sense).
@NTM: I don't remember selecting a difficulty, but I usually do avoid selecting "easy," so that's a possibility.
@Akeldama: Hrm, I don't think so. I play a lot of older games, and my dislike didn't have anything to do with graphics. It was mainly the gameplay and the fact that the story took a dump about halfway though.
@immike: Thanks, I will probably will end up renting, as you suggested. I didn't necessarily find Indigo Prophecy "boring" perse, just aggravating that it gave the illusion of choice, when, aside from a few key times, you were forced to do exactly what the developer wanted you to (mainly, play never-ending games of Simon).
@Diamond: Thanks for the reply! The exceptionally long QT events were definitely what bugged me most about Indigo Prophecy. I wasn't even bad at them, they just got annoying. I'll probably pick Heavy Rain up sometime in the near future.
I've bought quite a few. I'm actually relieved that today's deals didn't include anything I wanted...
Ben There, Dan That! & Time Gentlemen, Please! Broken Sword III Oblivion Gothic II & 3 Indigo Prophecy Oddworld pack Overlord pack Red Faction: Guerilla Tales of Monkey Island Thief: Deadly Shadows The Void Zeno Clash
So far the only ones I really regret are Indigo Prophecy and Zeno Clash.
I'm becoming more and more disillusioned with the Bioshock franchise. They should've just left it alone after the first one. The second wasn't awful, but it was a pale comparison and wasted potential. The DLC generally looks like hot garbage. It's like making DLC for Mass Effect 2 that adds 25 new planets to scan. Whoop-dee-doo.
