A gaming quadstravagasm.

I have a Wii.
I have a Wii.
I really need to trademark that portmanteau.

Let's be honest.  My Wii has been doing some collecting of dust for about a month.  Haven't done much gaming lately.

That has changed.

I went a little crazy Tuesday morning and bought a total of 4 games, and I believe that is a personal record.  It was off to Best Buy where I picked up the THQ duo of Deadly Creatures and de Blob... didn't have MadWorld, though.  After trips to Gamestop, Walmart, Target, EB Games, and even K-Mart (shudder), I drove to another Walmart where I found a copy.  I'm a persistent little bastard.  At that Walmart was a lonely copy of Blast Works lost in a sea of the reduced-price shovelware of old PS2 games and shitty Wii minigames.  I gave in and bought it.

So I got a chance to play a little of each and here's my quick thoughts.

  • MadWorld is this year's No More Heroes... crazy stylish, bloody as hell, and laugh-out-loud funny.  It's a bit repetitive, but the same with No More Heroes and that didn't make me like it any less.  It's a must-own for the Wii.
  • Deadly Creatures is one of the best looking games for the Wii.  The action is quite good and the Billy Bob Thornton and Dennis Hopper are solid in their roles, and there's a Metroid vibe when playing through it.  Highly recommended.
  • I went back to 2008 with de Blob and I like what I played of it so far.  It fits perfectly to my slight OCD tendencies and the whole presentation is totally Nintendo, even though this is a 3rd party game.  Not caring for the waggle to jump (prefer a button press) but it's still hella fun.
  • Blast Works: Build, Trade, Destroy was the cheapie of the group and it's worth the $20 I spent.  The shooting is pretty generic and isn't as fun as expected, but I have yet to try the editing tools which could change my thoughts about Blast Works.

I also picked up a 2GB SD card for storage purposes as well as LIT for WiiWare and F-Zero X.  LIT is pretty decent, too.

And just as spring arrives.  Oh well, no outside for me until the summer.

Deadly Creatures looks really good actually, despite my hate for spiders.

Also, who needs the outside? Indoors is where it's at!

Well Dalai, I'm sitting on enough money to buy one game and I want a Wii game. I feel the need sometimes. I was going to buy MadWorld, but Deadly Creatures seems to be more my flavor. I'm still waiting... we'll see.
