Bring these games to the Virtual Console... now!

All this week, I compiled a list of games I would love to see on Nintendo's Virtual Console... because I'm a selfish bastard and I want more from the Mario Factory.  As I put together the list, it turned into this big nostalgia trip and I really hope everybody gets a chance to play some of these classics someday... on whatever console you can get your hands on.  Microsoft is sitting on some impressive Rare games that I once played (and still can play) on my N64 and I'd like to see Microsoft take more advantage of Rare's big titles like Perfect Dark and Killer Instinct.  But since my allegiance is with Nintendo, I'm pulling for them to bring more goodness to the Wii Shop.

Anyway, here's the final six of my list of 30.  Scroll down to the bottom for links to the rest of my list.

6. Perfect Dark

You'll notice that my list features games that have zero chance of coming to the Wii.  Perfect Dark is one of those games.  Rare decided to take what made GoldenEye 007 amazing and add a new paint job, some new tires, and other car analogies.  Whether it's better than GoldenEye is up to interpretation, but there's no denying the quality product Rare made.

5. Chrono Trigger

Another pipe dream.  First, Chrono Trigger is out on the DS.  Second, charging $40 for a DS version makes more business sense.  Third, charging $8 for a VC port is probably a dumb decision due to my second point.  And fourth, it's Square Enix.  So as we all wait for a sequel, we'll have to settle for the probably awesome DS port with stylus controls or your old SNES cartridge or PS1 versions for your Chrono fix.

4. Mother

Mother is another pipe dream because Nintendo of Japan can be scared little bastards at times.  Mother was about ready to be shipped to America, but delays and the SNES squashed any chance of an American release.  And then Earthbound's lack of success killed the series here in the states.  People are praying for Mother to show up on the Virtual Console, even at the $6 import price... and it's worth every penny.

3. Contra

Xbox 360 owners can enjoy this if they wish, but Nintendo Wii owners?  We're stuck with Super C and Contra III: The Alien Wars... wait, those games are pretty damn good.  Well anyway, Contra brings back many great childhood memories and I learned the most important button combination in the industry.  What I would give to grab myself a spread gun and just blast the shit out of everything in sight.

2. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Majora's Mask has the distinction of being the only major console Zelda yet to be released.  Nintendo rushed to get every other Zelda out there for purchase, but is Majora's Mask such an oddity that it has to wait?  Even Zelda II, the side-scrolling black sheep of the family is on the VC.  Majora's Mask is high on almost everybody's list of most wanted VC games and it's easy to see why.

1. Earthbound

The Earthbound issue came up very recently and it's unlikely that Earthbound will ever show up again in the Western world.  There's not much to say about Earthbound that hasn't been said by the thousands of Earthbound fanboys scattered across the net.  It seems that every publication has placed Earthbound atop many most wanted VC games lists so unless Nintendo of Japan has a change of heart, there will be a whole lot of disappointed Eathbound fans out there.  As for me, all I need is a SNES that works.  I've got the old SNES cartridge currently in my closet and I'm not willing to give it up just yet.

There are a lot of honorable mentions that need some love on the Virtual Console: Illusion of Gaia, Donkey Kong 64, Flicky, Stinger, Batman, Kung Fu, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Cool Spot, Animaniacs, Clayfighter, Strider, Mega Man X, RBI Baseball, Smash TV, Ducktales, Top Gun, Syndicate, and even some Lethal Enforcers since light gun games are all the rage now.

Now if you excuse me, I must find a way to control my list fetish.
